Koeman was hired by Southampton because he could fit into their system and continue with their model.

Les Reed has publicly stated in numerous interviews that he brings in managers to fit the business model and playing model and also players to fit into this same model.

Koeman DID NOT rebuild anything there...

What we have is a manager who did well at Feyenoord and Southampton managing a 1st team squad that was given to him. This is not a manager who can build a dynasty or create a squad.

Its clear he has had some impact on signings such as Bolasie whilst others like Gueye were Walsh picks.

For me, Walsh needs to be the one to create the "Everton NEW school of science" and sign the players to fit into this style. Koeman just needs to manage the players as per Walsh's mandate and short/long term goals.

Les Reed at Southampton is similar to Monchi at Seville....we need Walsh to take on a similar role.

These players we have DO NOT suit Koemans style of play and as such its a case of him using negative tactics as hes not going to develop players. Hes a short termist manager who needs a system and players in place to suit him.

What we have now is to rely on Walsh bringing in players of the quality of Gueye and using our clubs history and Koemans big name to attract them. He has form for this at Leicester and this is why he has been hired....because its a clear weakness of Koemans.

We then need to hope that the manager can change to fit OUR style of play which shouldnt be the turgid boring stuff were seeing at the moment.

I think a lot rests on Walsh and how much power he is given.

As for this squad, its a mid table squad as it was under Martinez simply by looking at the wages table which is a good barometer of the final placings...that is where we will finish, if not lower because of Koeman.

Take a day off, Tim.

What exactly were you expecting this early into a brand new regime?

I'm just confused at the lengths some are going to defend a loss to Burnley. I'm not saying it's the end of the world cause it's not, but I'd rather people just called it what it is. It's a very bad result, not one we can afford often, and we could badly do with a win at the weekend. That's all I'm saying.

no one is saying it's a good result and what's the loss to Burnley got to do with waiting another 21 years?

Some were saying to wait another season last spring before ditching brown shoes. We could be another trophyless decade down the line and some of our fans would still be saying wait, be patient etc. There's a weird mentality of not questioning the club.

Of course we need patience at the moment and I'm not a good example of this, but we can't just wait forever like some would happily do. We need to be proactive. That means Ronald making swift decisions on certain players and above all the board finally getting it right in the market. Like most things in life, just idly waiting doesn't work. You have to seize opportunities.

nobody was saying that, not one single person. Even Dave acknowledged he had to go.

Some good points, Zat.

This post and the issues it raises for discussion deserves a thread of its own.

First Ten Everton league games:
Koeman 18 points
Martinez 19 points
Moyes 11 points

Koeman seems to me to be finding his feet pretty well. :)
