Rumours saying he wanted 5m € per year from Schalke in his new contract, but they just offered him 3m € which is twice the money he earns in his current contract.
 

Imagine the meltdown on here on Deadline Day at 11.30 (or10.30, if window 'slams shut', at 11.00) when DAVIDMOYES posts a thread stating: "Some German lad on his way for a medical - £2mil+ Gueye. His dad's an Evertonian, but he prefers cheese on toast's style of play"
 
I still think this could happen in all seriousness. Schalke are quickly running out of steam in the Bundesliga to do anything this year, they may accept a "nominal" fee for him now rather than nothing in the summer.

If we're interested (big if, never seriously indicated anywhere), then I think £5m-ish and £50k a week would tempt him. Let's put it this way, if I were in his shoes and my dad was a Blue, and I was offered £50k a week, the phrase "why am I thinking twice about this?" would go through my head.

He's 22 as well, not like his chances of playing for a "massive" club would die out if he accepted a four year contract with us.

Just got a sneaky feeling it could be on...

then we realised we've spent £2m to release gueye just to bring hitzlesperger in on a perm

If that is actually what he's asking for, not confirmed anywhere, just a rumour.

If so, yeah we can't pay £80k a week to him, but if the 3m Euro figure is right (£50k a week) we can definitely wrangle that.
 
I still think there is a good chance of getting this lad. He seems very level headed. We all know about the Everton connection and seems the sort to realise at his age playing every week would be more important than money at this stage.

I sort of hope he joins Liverpool, just because I fancy utterly despising someone for good reason other than Suarez, Gerrard and Carragher for a change.
