LinkedIn Open To Work Banner

LinkedIn Lunatics, one of the best Reddit subs

View attachment 280526
I’ve just had a look through it, it’s astounding. Why do people make out that sometimes doing things like having a healthy meal, going for a run and working hard on a project makes them some sort of super successful ultra business guru rather than just, you know, a normal functioning human being? And why do they feel the need to tell everyone about it?

LinkedIn, along with most social media platforms, has died a death.

I used to use it quite religiously for networking purposes however now it’s full of engagement farming accounts copying and pasting the old “I don’t care if you conference call me from the gym” spiel.

To answer your original question, I see no harm in using the open for work banner but it will upset your current employer no end - it will also tell future employers you’re willing to put yourself in the shop window if you’re unhappy at their workplace in the future. Worth thinking about.

I often find those that shout loudest are the least capable, and the assassins go about their business quietly and professionally…

Indeed is your best option
I disagree, most employers hate using it but have to because they pay a Indeed/Recruiter fee.

I’ve found the best form of attack is to specifically look at companies websites who I’d be interested to work for, and look at their vacancies directly. Many great employers will advertise through their own platform and not via job sites.

I was recruiting once, and we had to list our position on indeed. I kid you not, 95% of applicants where either in Africa or India, or people on job seekers who had to complete a number of applications to continue their payments. The vast majority didn’t have a single requirement listed on the post. It was a waste of time sifting through some many token applications.

Personally, I wouldn't use the open for work whilst if was employed. You become a flight risk to your current employer and it provides them a reason not to invest in you.

Make relevant connections and lots of them. Sync with recruiters if you want to move/see what's available. Join groups that are focused on your career choices - you'll see jobs advertised there. You don't need to advertise your availability if you're connected with an up to date career history. I get an interview offer weekly (and daily sales pitches...) without ever advertising myself. I have >1,200 connections though.

Since it’s expected I post there by the work I do, I make a point of not posting any of that narcissistic crap and gently call out social media as a con and a mirage.

There is a setting that you can turn on so that only recruiters can see the banner. Just in case you don't want your current job seeing it. Might want to make sure you aren't connected with whoever does recruiting from your own company.

Anyone have any experience with it?

I used it in a protest sort of way when was up for redundancy but took it off when I was safe 12 months ago.

However I’ve decided to throw it back on now as the job is doing me head in. Does it make you look abit desperate? Has it ever worked for any of you? Is LinkedIn the Reddit of the job sector world?

Also I'm available for work. I can do IT, drive a submarine, create above average threads. Lots of experience on Scottish alcohol. Any roles for me?
Why worry about the Banner when your profile picture frightens everyone

Could you please provide evidence of ‘Above average threads’ ?
