The crying from that lot is out of this world. Anyone would think that Everton had won by an offside goal the way they, and their overwhelming media fan-base, are banging on about some imagined injustice. Just take your ill-gotten 3 points and hope your luck continues to hold :lol::lol::bye:
I think thats the key point. They've been poor in recent weeks. The loss in the CL and League Cup. Poor performances in the league. Unresolved issues with Salah and VVD. It's a early defensive mechanism in case they falter in the league (get the excuses in early just in case).

So in an odd coincidence I attended a lunch and learn session this week on split second decision making and the speaker was a proffessional referee. He explained that FIFA issues them with rubrics to guide decision making. the focus of the session was the offside law and interpreting it. The rubric states a player can be in an offside position but not be classed as offside unless he plays the ball or interferes with a defender. Clearly Diaz does neither at first but then in the goal bulid up he plays the ball into Jota's path and the goal is scored. This should be an infringement according to the referees guidance, unless the ref and VAR deem that the passages of play were seperate, so when he does touch the ball it is seperate from the earlier offside position.

I am finding it hard to disagree with your incisive analysis...
Except, perhaps you did not use enough "ugly"

Got a earful this morning from a taxi driver who said he went last night, should of brought a violin with me

By the rules, Diaz is not offside for the goal....but that part of the rule needs to change, you don't always move to the ball in football...at times you do stand still.

Every movement or where a player is standing will affect the opposition and where they supsiquently stand or move too, hence for me he SHOULD be off-side.

you can tell it’s a generational thing, almost as if they are offended by everything, ashamed of nothing.

But this is the biggest issue with what we have now. You don't have blood to touch the ball to affect the game. His presence in that position effects the decision making of Everton players. Had Tarkowski k own he was offside, or Diaz hadn't been there, then its likely that Tarkowski clears it effectively, or allows the ball to run through to the keeper. He only did what he dod because Diaz was in that position and that position was offside.

Its no longer a split second decision by referees either, as they have taken minutes to make the wrong decision on a number of occasions.

It's been that way for literally years though. I totally agree with you and have made the argument many times that it's not right, but the way the rules are (and have been for a long time) that isn't offside.
