The big thing for me, with regards to the Tarkowski challenge, was that it was not a challenge. He is obviously sliding to boot the ball away.
It is a footballing incident, absolutely gobsmaked that all the analysts were so adamant that it was a red. It looked bad but there were several mitigations.
1. He was in control of his actions at all times.
2. As said he was kicking the ball so the natural reaction would be to follow through with his leg.
3. The 'victim' was coming from his side, more or less behind him and Tarkowski only had eyes for the ball, which he made a perfect connection with.
4. The distance from the ball contact and player contact is too great to say he definitely meant it. The fact he does not look at the player once and connects with the ball perfectly tells me that the Liverpool player was unfortunate to be in the way of the follow through.
