He wasn't. The rules set out what interfering with play is, whether we agree with them or not, and Diaz wasn't doing any of them. There's no way it could have been given offside.

The big thing for me, with regards to the Tarkowski challenge, was that it was not a challenge. He is obviously sliding to boot the ball away.

It is a footballing incident, absolutely gobsmaked that all the analysts were so adamant that it was a red. It looked bad but there were several mitigations.

1. He was in control of his actions at all times.
2. As said he was kicking the ball so the natural reaction would be to follow through with his leg.
3. The 'victim' was coming from his side, more or less behind him and Tarkowski only had eyes for the ball, which he made a perfect connection with.
4. The distance from the ball contact and player contact is too great to say he definitely meant it. The fact he does not look at the player once and connects with the ball perfectly tells me that the Liverpool player was unfortunate to be in the way of the follow through.

It was a definite red mate. Like absolutely nailed on. I knew as soon as the ball fell between them Tarks was aiming to take ball then man. I've seen him do it on numerous occasions. He followed through deliberately with excessive force.

My view of the game:
Tarks was very lucky, red card all day for me.
Beto was 2 inches from having 2 goals, 1 inch offside, 1 inch from scoring off the post.
They dominated the 2nd half & we were shocking going forward. Doucoure & Harrison are so poor with their final balls & decision-making.
The goal shouldn't have stood as Diaz was offside and Tarks only went for the ball because of where Diaz was standing. If Tarks didn't deflect the pass, the ball wouldn't have ended up with the Liverpool player who put it back into our box.
Myko played well, and is a warrior for playing through the pain.
And Curtis Jones is still a bell.

Our historical record there is horrid and their home record in the last couple of seasons is very good.

Is it worth it at all to point out to you that this isn't how offside works, though? Whether it should work like that is a different argument. The rules as they are mean it wasn't offside, the pundits are right, and it isn't (in this case) bent.

Anyway, I feel sorry for his ma having to clean up mess tomorrow morning after his night of passion, with a life size cardboard cut out, of Yurrrggeen, and his pet dog, who has witnessed things no living creature should say. Hopefully Charley isn't a dog bothered as well.
