Liverpool left to tumble into £420m black hole - News & Comment, Football - The Independent

"KFL’s debts increased by £77.5m in a year, partly because of £18.7m spent in the period on work relating to the proposed new stadium in Stanley Park, including on architects’ fees. “This is for a stadium that is as far away as ever from being started, let alone finished,” said one source.
Liverpool also wrote off £10.3m in the financial year 2006-07 on money spent on previous stadium designs that were ditched. In all at least £30m has been spent on a stadium, now planned as a 73,000-seat arena, that has yet even to be subject to feasibility studies over issues including traffic."

Keep it going Tex. (y)

Not sure if anyone has pointed out yet, but, their star player who constitutes are fair proportion of their squad value is slowly getting older, and without any more Michael Owens or Jamie Carraghers coming through to bolster the ranks as well as keep the squad value up, there will in a few seasons be a significant shortfall.

350 million pound debt..the mind boggles.

You could understand that amount if they'd built the stadium but wow, just wow.

if it was us, the banks would demand it and we would be forced to sell players or go into some sort of administration. They however can pile up as much as they like it seems, they can even buy right backs for 17 mil + FFS :dodgy:

Yea but the club is worth anywhere from 300-600M, there is collarertal on the debt unless they get relegated. Unfortunately they aren't NUFC (on the other hand, if they did I'd blow an artery in my brain celebrating but at least I'd die happy). I've never understood why they need a new stadium either. The future of revenue for the prem is TV and jersey sales, not ticket sales. It won't be too much longer when every prem team is getting 10-15M/yr just from North America.

Crouch money taken into account for that deal though, mate. And even Benitez has stated that his options are now limited to one more player (unless he sells a few players like Voronin and Arbeloa). With the RBS breathing down their necks for repayments I think it looks reasonably good at the moment. I can see these two holdng onto their train set for the forseeable. David Moores: thank you very much for holding out for another few million and landing them right in it. (y)

Oooooooh...that's not good.

He's gonna have to sell one of his assets to make his association with the [Poor language removed] work.
