Fair enough, it's going to be an earner for the city. And the contest itself is tv gold for the ludicrous tat on show. But it feels like this has been well overplayed.

IMO, it's making Liverpool look a bit needy and desperate, all the pre-event programme and 'festival' organisation.

Just my opinion like.

Others might be looking forward to the circus coming to town.

I thought it was a bit ott. But I suppose with the whole Ukraine thing in the background they are trying to make it as impressive as possible. Plus the UK havent hosted it for a long time.

Not my cup of tea either but I hope it goes brilliantly and as you say its great for the local economy. Also may put us in the frame for other majorr events if it goes well.

Been waiting for this

*Settles in.
Just struck by the massive hype over this tommye.

It's a big event and it's understandable Liverpool will be exploiting it, but I couldn't imagine, say, Manchester devoting as much resources to putting this carnival on and trumpeting it like it was the Olympics that was coming to town.

I feel slighly embraased by it all.

Maybe that's part of it, yeah. I can understand that Liverpool will be being encouraged behind the scenes to ramp it up for propaganda purposes.

It's a HUGE event in the LGBT calendar and Manchester, and it's booming gay scene, would be all over it.

UK host it cos we came 2nd last year didnt we? Several cities asked for it, not a city in the world that is more drenched in popular music history than Liverpool. As in, when someone thinks "Liverpool", its either footie or music that shout back.

edit. Other than some UNESCO loons.

Yes, but the rest of the city would be bemused at the attention given to it.

TBF, it might be Liverpool showing that they can bid for and host important events and competitions in the future. There's that possibility I suppose.

It's a big deal, Eurovision. But up here there's been about a 4 week 'celebration' of it so far - and there's a week still to go to the actual event!

You'd be surprised how many LGBTQ friendly bars in America have Eurovision watch parties (it streams live over here so it's an all day event) and they really get into it. Honestly it sound like a brilliant time and I think it would be fun to go to one as an ally if they would have us.
