Digne now > Baines in his prime
Why do this, easy to forget Baines was probably the best left back in europe in his prime, had more assists than most wingers and was absolutely a joy to watch with Pienaar. I love Digne really think he's a special player but why try to detract from Bainesy and his performances. Not one poster on here bar @davek would have swapped Baines in his prime.
Baines in his prime was what he was: a winger getting loads of help from Distin covering for him and Pienaar covering for him. He was NEVER a full back. He was NEVER a defender. Digne does both sides of the game and is, therefore, infinitely superior to that washed up Kopite.
Not keen on the washed up Kopite remark,Dave but I agree with you that Baines was great going forward, but not more than average in his defensive role. Firstly,he was hardly ever able to stop a cross ,or 'shepherd' the winger like our greatest full backs, Ramon Wilson and Alex Parker, even George Thomson.Baines in his prime was what he was: a winger getting loads of help from Distin covering for him and Pienaar covering for him. My resentment started with him when he started playing like an ale house league player...which funnily enough was when Martinez made the decision to shake it up at LB by also playing Oviedo and Galloway...which prompted "One of Us" to pillory his own team on live tv during a EL game and run to the press behind the manager's back to pour petrol on a burning fire.I know how you feel about him haha, I would be interested to see some posts from the time and did your resentment start when he had that incident with Martinez. Baines was class,no rewriting history, one of our best ever LBs probably outside of title winning teams.
Brighton need a Dinghy
Toffees need a Digne..
Dixie Digne will be on penalty duty soon.

He is a disgrace. I'm delighted now that everyone has pretty much forgotten him and his forgettable defensive displays now they can see what a real class left back was always supposed to do.
Meanwhile, League One beckons the Kopite.
The build up to the freekick between him and Bernard was beautiful. Boss the way DCL purposely had the touch of a rapist; so that he could get brought down by the defender.
