You could argue that the transfer fee system leads to a massive incentive incompatibility between top players and agents in football.

On this side of the pond, where compensation is a percentage of signing bonus and salary, the agent has an incentive to maximize the player's career income. For the players at the absolute top end of the scale in football, the agent makes the most money by repeatedly unsettling the player and reaping as many cuts of transfer fees as possible while the player is at his peak, to the detriment of his career wages.
Looks like his rat of an agent has moved his client on one too many times this time and it's come back to bite him on the arse.
He just switched agents from the uber rat of an agent (Raiola), IIRC.
