Just to be clear, you rate welbeck higher than lukaku?

Ah the old "that welbeck is useless" shouts... he is a very good athlete who I believe will score goals as a striker. Its unreal how underrated he is - now he is a player who has real potential. With some confidence and consistency he will become a very good player.

Thats not pop corn, its just someone who actually looks at a player fully and not just little smatterings and jump on band wagons.

Not higher - they have different attributes. Welbeck is a better "forward", Lukaku the better "striker".

I feel that if we are going to play with an attacking midfield set up that Welbeck would be of more value as the centre forward.

I think Welbeck would benefit our set up as we can press higher as he has a far superior work rate and stamina than Rom, yes Rom is a goalscorer, I get that but I think we can get what he does for less £££.

For me Bony merges the attributes of both strikers together perfectly.

Fair enough, youre entitled to have a different opinion of course. Welbeck seems to run around a lot with minimal end product, a bit of a jermaine beckford type I suppose. Hed be worth a punt at 10mil I suppose but the thing is that we dont have that sort of cash to spend on someone with such a low strike rate.

For arguments sake lets say that leaves a choice of lukaku and bony. Bony has had a single season in the league and would cost 20mil--there are historical pieces of evidence (just looking at alot of players) which show that the 2nd season may not be as productive.

Also, the stats seem to show him as more of a penalty taker and scorer against weaker teams in comparison to lukaku.

It sounds like you want someone to hold up the ball rather than someone to score goals and develop their game to hold up the ball? For me id take the proven goalscorer every time.

So he thinks Pele was gay? Not too sure about that one. Dont find Bony all that attractive myself and would have thought ricky martin would be more of the gay brazilian mans poster boy.

Sounds it, but then again he thinks Pele has posters of Bony on his bedroom wall.

I just think Welbeck needs a shot at the central role, he plays on the left and does it selflessly - he could be a real bargain. Goals is all he needs. Read this not long ago, and I agree...

DANNY WELBECK,” replies Rio Ferdinand. The Manchester United defender has been asked a hypothetical question: which one United player, if any, would he sign if he was a manager? Ferdinand replied without hesitation.
“I can see in a couple of years that he’s going to be a top, top player,” he said, explaining his less than obvious choice. “He’s got speed, he’s brave. He’s got technique, heart and desire. Within two years I can see him adding the goals, the only thing missing from his game. He’s got to play like he did in Madrid week in week out.”

So now we should believe Rio Ferdinand when he says Welbeck will become a top player but we shouldn't trust Martinez when he says Lukaku will become a top player.

Key point for me is the goals, he has a 1 in 4 strike rate.

Thats very poor.

he will be a good player - he is a good player. For me I don't believe he is the right forward for us - if that disagrees with Martinez then so be it, it won't be the first time i've disagreed with a manager and been right. Being boss does not make you right.

Its a very scewed stat, the majority of his games have been out on the left.

PLEASE tell me whom. Rom averages a goal every two games over the last two seasons in the Prem, not one of them a penalty. For all his flaws, and I agree he's not the finished article by any means, he's a 21 year old proven premiership goalscorer. Nothing you can say about Welbeck's "work rate" or Bony being the more complete striker will outweigh that.

The idea that the Centre Forward in our 4231 doesn't need to score as much because we'll be playing with an attacking midfield set up is all well and good but, Mirallas aside, who scores the goals? Pienaar? Nope. McGeady? Not on what we've seen so far. Barkley will probably be good for a dozen goals, but if so it will be at Naismith's expense, because neither of them are much cop anywhere but ACM.

I agree we probably won't get Lukaku, but he is the best available. I'll settle for Bony, but I'd want him significantly cheaper than Lukaku. Welbeck however, would have to pay for the privilege of ever wearing Royal Blue.

Rom took WBA's penno's - he missed one too against Swansea. Regardless, I know his ratio, I am well aware that he is a good poacher and can be a great asset when things are going his way. For me £20m plus carries risk, I feel that defenders have worked out how to nullify him.

How many pens did he take for WBA? Considering he often came on as a substitute, I'll hazard a guess it wasn't many.

And if defenders have worked him out, how come he's scored more than Chelsea's top scorer.... two seasons running?

£20m for Lukaku would be a HUGE bargain. Not saying we can afford it, but it would be as close to a sure thing as you can get.

These commentators cannot be taken seriously.
Scholes had a cut off Baines today, but if he had signed for Utd last year would Scholes have said anything ?
Scholes football career is over,as a player he didn't comment. I thought it was because he was quiet,it turns out it ws because he was clueless.
