To be fair to Kanchelskis, that was pretty much out of his hands. In that one season alone, Kanchelskis took on the weight of the club by himself and took us to 6th. It was a step up. Off the field incidents brought a stop to this progression.

I'm not criticising him - quite the opposite. I wish we'd been able to sign more players of his calibre.

They're paying about £20M+ for a mediocre CB; £25M for an attacker with no pace or physical strength.

Lovren's many things, but mediocre isn't one of them. Let's not lose our heads.
