Tapping his nose and flashing a smile would have done fine for an upbeat "maybe we will, maybe we won't"

He's well more than 50% that Rom will be back here soon enough.

Martinez is just a positive person, he's not going to say 'not a hope in hell lad'
Behave.

He didn't to have to say a word and even if he was going to placate the fan, he could have said, we'll see, or I hope so, to say what he said ( when not realising he was being recorded btw) he was patently speaking honestly and is confident of concluding a deal.

Think a lot of people are reading too much into that video, it was an off the cuff remark made to someone shouting at him from above. Wasn't exactly a probing interview or anything.

Think that makes it more revealing mate. His guard was down and he answered like a normal person, instead of a cliche filled football interviewee.

That's what I thought - The number of times you just say 'Yes' or the like to a half heard comment - Happens almost every day!
He said "of course we will", not just "oh yeah".

I agree we shouldn't look too much into it though, don't get me wrong like.

This was an exchange I had with a mate after the interview with the director of recruitment:

"Well - I am cautiously optimistic - There is an awful lot of rumors swirling out there. I think if he doesn't sign next week, I genuinely think a deal is agreed to for after the Chelsea game which occurs before the window. Martinez said that there could be moves right up until the last minute and I wonder if that is basically a "wink wink" he knows more than us comment. I think this would allow Chelsea the benefit of only having to face him once but the rest of the league would possibly face him twice.
I hope we get him sooner but I think a lot of what we see from the striker position over the next week will tell us what will happen. If we don't bring someone in next week (younger and permanently) I genuinely think that points more toward Lukaku because I think Martinez knows we have to have a Permanent No.1 striker for the long term."

I hope it's Lukaku

I don't blame you for your optimism, but you're putting a lot of Lukaku eggs in that televisual basket.
