so people...the question...

who do we play upfront?

Cahill + mcfadden/yakubu/anichebe
Mcfadden + yakubu
Mcfadden + Anichebe
Yakubu + Anichebe

Id like to play the Anichebe and Yakubu partnership again, both of them have ben playing well and deserve to play. Luton is the type of team that these 2 strikers will tear apart!

Also, another point...anyone remember anichebes goal vs luton last year? it was class!

Is Vaughan going to be fit? maybe him and faddy or anichebe.

If vaughan is fit id think hed come on later in the game off the bench...no point playing an unfit player against a team which is easily under-estimated.

In that case it will likely be anichebe and faddy upfront as they have not played much lately.

I agree, i think this is the type of team both of them love. Mcfadden has the chacne to try his ambitious shots and skill, and anichebe did well in the preseason when he faced teams of lutons standard, so he should do well. Cant wait for this match

The main thing is getting through and i feel that playing a strong side is the way forward

Wessels

Jagielka
Yobo
Stubbs
Valente

VDM
Carsley
Gravesen
Pienaar

McFadden
Yakubu

????? Valente has been a great player for the club. Sure he may be getting on a bit, but he still offers us something and a cup game would be perfect for him to get a nice run-out. Plus, it lets us rest Lescott and Baines should still be out from the weekend.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Valente is a terrible player! hes slow, very inconsistent, and not that good at running up the wing.

If you watched the pre-season friendlys when he played he was the worst player in all of hte matches!! he couldnt tackle, he lost the ball easily, he seemed to be as determined as VDM!!

Dylan I do question how you can really call Valente a great player for our club considering he has hardly played, and when he has he's been far from special. He's decent as a wing back if he's fit, but I think age has caught up with him now.

He was only ever brought in as a stop gap anyway, so now Baines and Lescott can cover that position then it wont be long before Valente leaves.

Interesting comments as I've seen Valente have several good matches for us in the past. He's just as willing to get forward as Baines is. He may not be as dangerous as Baines in that regard but he can still do it.

Even if Baines was fit, I'd have wanted Valente to start the match anyway for a few reasons:

1) Give Baines a break.
2) Get Valente a game.
3) Keep Valente match fit in case Baines has a long layoff.

It's good to have depth.

That is exactly right Bill.

You guys can be so short sighted sometimes. Remember once he settled he was quite useful for us, and was the starting left-back for Portugal at the world-cup, remember? Age has caught up with him, he is taking longer to recover from injury, and is slower as a result, but to cast him off, in much the same way as you guys have cast of VDM is a little harsh IMO.

Once he was quite useful? so was beattie and naysmith and look what happened to them

And VDM doesnt deserve to be cast off! i want him to play in the uefa matcehs or cup matches

No problem with valente at all, but great is not a word I would use to describe him, he's been Ok and well worth having, but he's not the type of player that would deserve the tag 'Great', especially from an evertonian perspective.

Full commentary on BBC radio 5 live tommorrow if anyone is interested. YES, thats right, BBC radio have picked us as the match to focus on. (do you think they want us to lose on the radio or is the tide turning?)
