We had no ideas, couldnt break them down and that sort of goal was the only way we were going to score. Macclesfield offered nothing whatsoever, and we still managed to allow them to come onto us for the last 5 minutes. Poor poor game and fully expect us to be knocked out against a Championship side upwards.

Gosling has been very effective for us the last two games he's played. Could have given us a jolt today.

Second half was just attack and defend football. We looked composed and comfy on the ball. Arteta worked hard, Pienaar & Osman looked good, solid defence, solid peformance. If we had a second he would have made wholesale changes but we need to keep this form going. (y)

Danny boy will get his chance. We've got some good kids.

Typical Everton performance.

1-0 not unexpected at all. I'd be concerned if Macclesfield came at us over and over but we had most of the possession, especially out wide with acres of space, and were really never threatened.

No one really stood out for Everton today except maybe Baines who got forward over and over.

Cracking save by Howard at the end after having nothing to do for 90+ minutes.

Roll on to the 4th round, preferably a home match.

All the prem teams play badly against lower-league opponents, it happens.

Why?

The first average performance since the Spurs game. We didn't need to break them down, we where cruising for most of the game. A controlled performance, we saw it out nicely.

Not rocket science I know, but three observations from todays game:

1. Hibbert seems only to perform at his best against the top sides, or in crucial matches, he never seems at his best against lesser opposition.

2. Anichebe will never make it as a top class footballer, he lacks virtually all of the attributes of a good striker.

3. Fellaini makes us a much better team and is sorely missed when not playing.

Good result and an ok performance, we did what we had to do, end of story.

I was thinking that exact same thing Esk.

We've had better performances this season, we've also had a lot worst.

To be honest I expected a one goal win from the start it's quite rare for premier league clubs to thrash lower league oppostion nowadays.

Why KJ. Okay today performance was not the best however we are through. Just look at city and middlesborough who scraped past barrow and then chelsea, oh and stoke. The cup is not easy, So why do you say you expect us to be knocked out when we are performing so well against good premier league teams. Seems quite a defeated attitude to me mate. Oh ye of little faith
