I think Maldini is the greatest defender to ever play the game. Just a look at his honours is incredible. Around 1,000 games for Milan, 7 Serie A titles, 4 Champions League wins (plus numerous finals/semi-finals), runner up in both Euro Champs and World Cup, numerous other titles such as Euro Super Cups, World Club Cups etc plus 126 caps for Italy. Absolutely amazing player.

Sadly for the honest professionals in the Italian league, they are ALL tainted with the corruption scandal.

Its a F***ing disgrace.

I see another thread starting here...

Who was your favorite goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, & forward?

Goalie - BIG NEV for sure. Heard alot about Banks and Yashin, but Nev's the greatest goalie ive ever seen.

Defender - MY OLD MAN. Great in the air, legs longer than Crouch, and a pscyology that would either smash you all day or kiss you (I saw him do it and the striker wouldnt go near him the rest of the game!!)

Midfielder - GAZZA in his prime. There are a million candidates, but that goal against Scotland at Euro '96 has to be the greatest goal ever scored. From a skill viewpoint and a purely emotional one, Hendry might as well have been having a pint in the stands.

Striker - SHEARER. For strength, for consistancy, and the fact he scored against us so many times I hated him for it!! The guy could score in a empty brothel.
