Needs to get a LOT better in the final third though. Putting all the pressure on DCL because we know Richarlison isn't going to score is no long-term solution. Like I posted earlier, 2 goals is embarrassing for him this season. He's really got no excuses whatsoever when Digne is popping balls into the box, DCL winning headers and James picking out passes. I have no idea what is wrong with him, this isn't just a bad phrase... it's half a season.

We know that he needs to improve, but we know he has the quality ffs. He's been superb for two years. He'd have scored the other night had Dom put him through for a simple one-v-one.

He's scored six goals all comps, he's been out suspended - missed a month of footy due to that - and came back into a team playing poorly, yet set up a goal inside 45 seconds.

Just chill about it. Players go through poor form. He's 23, in the middle of a pandemic, living away from his family, can't do anything. There's a lot of things to consider. But even if everything was going swimmingly, we'd still have fans looking to make a mountain out of a molehill because that's what we do.

Signs of improvement were there against Leeds, so he needs to carry that on now.

He's also been playing as a very deep left winger recently, which isn't his position - he's a forward. But he's doing that job because he works so hard defensively (in fact he got that injury earlier in the season because he tracked back and made a good tackle v West Ham).

This evening is a chance for this group of players to really prove themselves. At least a draw but a win would put us 5th with a game in hand over RS Leicester and United.

Please Everton make this an evening to be joyful.
This group of players has more than proved themselves: you can always rely on them to let you down.

Don't do it to yourself. While it may not be a 4-0 defeat tonight (though that possibility always exists), these lads are past masters at snatching defeat from the jaws of a backs-to-the-wall draw. Expect us, if not to capitulate, to find a way to lose late on if we're "competitive."

Think like this. It's for the best. It dulls tonight's inevitable pain.

All together now: "Hello darkness my old friend..."

Olsen

Holgate Mina Keane Godfrey

Iwobi Davies Doucoure Digne

Rodriquez Calvert-Lewin

Would have Richarlison, Gomes, King, Coleman, Pickford amongst the subs.

Sit deep and hit them on the break.

I keep playing a game in my head every round of fixtures where I look at each fixture and see what the best outcome for us would be.

In most cases, a draw is the best result right now as it is so tight but I’ve got to say I can’t remember a season where results went our way quite so often. We need to be making the most of it and if we beat United tonight that will cancel out the Newcastle loss which should have been a banker if our ambitions for Europe are to be realised.

I’d be tempted to bring Keane in and shift Godfrey to right back tonight. I usually don’t like moving form players to different positions but Godfrey is capable of anything
