My take on the whole thing was that it was being touted as a huge regeneration for the area and community and that they will ask the government to pay. The way they stated they were a community club etc. Feels like another situation where Sky clubs would get gov funding and we would get docked points for funding our own ground.

That's my take on it too. Not a penny to be spent by Utd until the Govt spends heaps on regeneration of the area.

Imo the limescale and costs are an absolute giggle too.

Right, so the club who are firing staff left right and centre, stopping free staff lunches, all because they can't afford it, now have money to spend on a brand new stadium. Meanwhile their owner, who has all his accounts offshore and doesn't pay UK tax, will go to the government for a hand out so that the UK taxpayer can help fund it. What a piss take.
