Everton won the old First Division, lost the FA Cup final to Manchester United and won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup, Juventus beat holder's Liverpool in that year's European Cup final which was marred by violent clashes in the Hysel Stadium that saw Liverpool fans responsible for the deaths of 39 Juventus fans. As a result of this and other incidents involving English football fans, all clubs were banned from European competition for 5 years, meaning the club couldn't go on to face up against the best of Europe in the 85/86 season nor the 87/88 season.

Still think he won't fully come into his own until the summer after next when the final expensive signings of the Walsh era are gone.

I think its more than fair to judge a DOF as you would any other entity of the club be it the manager, players or owner/chairman.

He's been here 2 years and whilst his signings have in the main been better than Walsh's those all mainly came in the first summer window.

His second window was really poor - Kean may well develop into a top player but right now he offers little, Iwobi is rubbish and screamed a panic buy, Delph is a bad egg and bang average, Lossl - the German Ghost. Only Gbamin can realistically be hailed as a success and thats totally dependent on him actually getting on the pitch and adjusting to the league which we dont know how well he will do. Add in the lack of options at CB, RW & up top he hasn't done as great a job as some make out.

His lack of use of the January window especially this one when we are in a battle for Europe is also frustrating.

Basically he's had 1 good summer window, 1 bad & 2 non existent January ones. He simply has to get the summer one right otherwise people wont be questioning the manager like they did with Silva they'll be questioning this bloke.

January is generally an expensive window to work in. Prices are inflated and availability is low. I’m glad we are no longer wasting money in it. Especially with FFP to contend with.

Would like to add as far as I can recall no Everton fans caused problems.

As for our DoF - Brands I am fully behind him one of the better persons ot join the club recently. I not only give him credit for the signings made but the deadwood removed from the club. Pity we are still stuck with half a dozen clogging up the wages bill but will see the back of some more this summer.

DCL was here before Brands & Richarlison imo was a Silva signing as much as Martina was a Koeman one. Richarlison also was signed as a winger but has to play up top because we dont have a 3rd CF (other than Kean who's nowhere near ready and Niasse who's garbage).

Ancelotti is turning water into wine at the moment- if we somehow get Europe thats nothing to do with Brands.

Im willing to give Marcel the summer but if he doesn't sort himself out I would peddle him if I were the owners.
