Siggurdsson cost £45 million
Fred cost around £50 million
The point is Brands thinks there is no value in January which is obviously rubbish.
So you think, if we’d have gone for it, we’d have got Bruno Fernandes here for £50m?

Havent a clue- but Brands theory has been shown as being rubbish.
Added to the disaster of last summer's signings I dont know how he still has unwavering support from some fans.
He's just as much to blame for this season as Silva imo.

Utd can afford to take gambles of 50 million in the January window. We cannot.
Obviously that is going to make Utd a lot less risk averse than we have to be.
Plenty of top signings have been made in January.
For me it shown up Brands as being somewhat short sighted in his recruitment policy - instead of looking at players on a case by case basis he's thrown the lazy "ah no value to be had in January lads" line out which has been shown to have little credibility.
Sure they have, but Brands' point was that they're done at a higher premium than they are usually done for in the summer and typically don't offer as much value for money.
We're up against the wall due to FFP so I can understand the value in biding our time to get the most value for our outlay.
He's never said "no value to be had in January", he just said there's better value in the summer market and for a club without the limitless resources of Utd that's where we are best spending our money.
No we wouldn’t and of course every signing doesn’t come off, but just some alternatives we could have bought as a like for like comparisonSo you think, if we’d have gone for it, we’d have got Bruno Fernandes here for £50m?

Siggy 45M Maddison 20m
Walcott 20m Tarore 18m
Delph 8m Moutinho 5m
Sidibe (loan) Pereria 22m
Of course Siguardsson and Walcott was signed prior to Brands coming, but all the other players Could have been bought for a similar outlay, by Brands. I’ve no doubt we could have got these other players to join us. We maybe can’t attract the calibre of player such as Bruno Fernandes, but there is still quality around.
That’s great but even in the summer window he hasn’t spent the money wisely.Sure they have, but Brands' point was that they're done at a higher premium than they are usually done for in the summer and typically don't offer as much value for money.

And we sign quality, for the most part, we just don’t let teams have us over a barrel in January.
Not a point you will see me argue against friend. That’s great but even in the summer window he hasn’t spent the money wisely.
I just think the club is on a hiding to nothing with the current set up - if you want to abide by FFP then you cant have a DOF peeing money away which we have in Brands.
Brands is the kind of manager a club like Utd would do well with as FFP doesnt mean anything to them.
