Dave it happens in all walks of life every day. It’s happened to me. It will have happened to others On here. Get your head out of the clouds and think ‘what would I do’.

you’d quit your well paid job and damage your professional reputation... or would you sit it out and when his decision proves to be dreadful, sit there and smugly grin and hope the control freak has learned his lesson.
It impacts on his ability to do his job. What player would be persuaded to a club by a DoF who is not in control of the team affairs?

I mean we should all just agree that virtually every part of the club and person involved has been utter scheisse for many years and that they all should be sacked if they don't quickly get better

Just reading debates on Brands or Keane or Moshiri or Iceland, it's kind of like debating the level of pain in your left leg when you've got the plague.

You've got the plague, everything hurts and Everton are crap

He says X, Boss says Y, boss goes with Y, gets it wrong. Has this cycle been repeated over and over, or just that one time? It’s the vote of confidence, it’s just come from the DoFrather than the old school of the chairman doing it.

And FWIW I doubt any players or agents would give one... only a minority of our own fan base seem to think it’s an issue.

There is no two opinions if the DoF has been hired to do a DoF job. HIS decision is final. If it isn't, he isn't the DoF, the owner is.

Simple as that.

We have a man in the job who has no authority.

so what you’re saying is that the UBO can never overrule a director in charge of, say, marketing? And that this never happens in the business world... I’ve called it marketing as it’s the only department that springs to mind in a regular company where there are fewer regulatory guidelines. (Rather that risk, for example)

you live in a fantasy world that supports your agenda if this is your true assertion.

At this point its clear that either:

A: Dave has no clue on corporate structures nor decision making processes at a senior level

B: Hes just blinded by hatred and is just going to keep repeating himself even if we won 3 european cups

Its not even a discussion...its make believe

I know it’s not trolling because I actually enjoy his stubborn posts. I agree with about 25-60% of what he says too...

... and ultimately we all want the same thing.

opinions are like a-holes - everyone’s got one.

I agree with portions of what Dave says. Its terribly overcooked though.

I think you're the one in the fantasy world if you think normal business rules relate to football.

A DoF means they have sole control over hiring and firing of managers, scouting, recruitment of players, long-term strategy of the first team.

If that doesn't apply anymore, neither does the title.

He is in charge of all that but at the end of the day he still needs the ultimate sign off from the man with the wallet.

You have the same problem as @Paul Rideout - you confuse the football industry with normal industry.

Credibility and status of a DoF is all important. They are THE arbiters of what goes on at a club in football terms. If an owner disregards that and countermands their wishes they lose face and have nothing.

On an issue of opinion over a football manager appointment - if he bends the knee to a corporate lawyer like Moshiri wtf credibility has he got?

Moshiri is his boss end of the day, he can’t sack/hire anyone without final approval, likewise Moshiri cannot make that final call without unanimous agreement from the board, of which Brands is a part of
