Marcel targeting top 6 fringe players according to the echo.
This is going all very Villa.

Top Fringe players you say?Marcel targeting top 6 fringe players according to the echo.

Sorry fella lol I was supposed to quote @GwladysBlue
Hard to argue with that.It is understood that the Blues would favour signing a top-level target on loan for next season, rather than buying a player who falls further down their wish-list.
Barcelona, following their 8-2 humiliation in the Champions League by Bayern Munich, are expected to accelerate a fire-sale of players while other top clubs, Manchester City, Chelsea and others, are needing to make room for their own squad rebuilds with outgoings.
As Brands said, midway through last year: “There is a lot of pressure at top six clubs and a lot of good players in their squads, for example Manchester City, who find it difficult to play.
At the same event in London, Everton's director of football added: "If you take an example of Lucas Digne, he started his career with Lille, then went to Paris Saint Germain, was loaned to Roma and was then playing for Barcelona but at the age of 24, he wanted to play every week and that was difficult at Barcelona.
“So he was happy to come to the Premier League and play for Everton. He is now one of the best left-backs in England.
“That is an example of how we will approach new players for our club.”
Sounds like a plan to me.
These kinds of players, alongside a number of up-and-coming young players, seems to be the remit for the new squad.

What do you suggest then, mate? go out and get the top players at the top clubs yeah?Signing players who can’t handle the pressure at top 6 clubs, that will surely fire us up to the top 6... what could go wrong.
Transfer strategy based on madness!
As good as Grealish is I don’t see any of the top 6 clubs going for him. Depending on the price tag I think he could end up here.Grealish and zaha it is then

That might be true if you were signing players in their late 20's but we have seen so many players signed by the top six clubs which were just the wrong fit for the club. They are not bad players but just the wrong fit.Signing players who can’t handle the pressure at top 6 clubs, that will surely fire us up to the top 6... what could go wrong.

I could live with Smalling but not the other two.Fringe players at top 6 clubs sounds good in principle but wait until the outrage when we are linked with Smalling, Jones and Drinkwater.
Indeed, which Brands has noted that we won't be doing again. How can that not be viewed as a positive indication? That might be true if you were signing players in their late 20's but we have seen so many players signed by the top six clubs which were just the wrong fit for the club. A lot of these signings are currently outside our paygrade and we will not be able to afford them , I am thinking of Coutinho and James.
But, these top six clubs also sign some young talented players who just cannot push past established players like Ramos, Messi , Ronaldo and so many more.
Players get frustrated sitting on benches and now because of the pandemic the top six clubs simply cannot afford to keep these players in an inflated squad because of their huge cost.
Their will be talented players and they will be available, whereas a club like Villa will want the very last penny for a player like Grealish and will fight toot and nail to keep him.
We have already had an experience of that with Swansea and Sigurdsson.
As mad as it sounds (yes, i know people won't like it) We should be looking at players who see us as a stepping stone to something bigger. Players like this will always come in and work hard and want to show what they have as they always want to catch someones eye, look at Rom he was here a couple of weeks before he made it pretty clear he was'nt going to stay very long but he always gave it 100%. I think signing/targeting players like this is better suited to where we are at the moment. What do you suggest then, mate? go out and get the top players at the top clubs yeah?
Also.. who on earth is to say those players 'can't handle the pressure' at those clubs? City have a bucketful of players with quality, a number of whom aren't guaranteed starters.. doesn't automatically mean that they 'can't handle pressure' does it?
