No it bloody wasnt.

Martinez : Lukaku, Holgate, Barry
Walsh : DCL, Gana, Keane, Pickford
Brands : Gomes, Mina, Rico, Digne, Kean, Gmblommo

Love how you've conveniently forgot about Jimmy Mac who was superb in his first season for Martinez. Yet mention Gbamin who's played 2 games for us and Kean who's struggled and will be back in Italy by October.

I think Brands is a waste of space based on his work so far but Martinez was an absolute moron.

Not sure what was worse, the 'tactics', the nonsense spouted in press conferences or load of dreadful signings.

1st season was great, no question. The seasons that followed saw some of the most infuriating, lifeless football I've ever seen. No pace, no penetration, no clue how to break down defences... Just passing it aimlessly 5 yards before being dispossessed and conceding a goal after the opposition break on us (I don't use the word counterattack as that implies that we were posing a threat prior to losing possession). Teams absolutely loved us having the ball because we offered almost zero threat and they knew that as soon as they pressed, we'd lose it and they'd be in.

Shambles of a club manager.

If only we got Monchi instead of Steve Walsh...

My opinion on Brands is the same as day one. Meh. There's just something about the Dutch league...

To be fair to him there's very valid restrictions on him but then I look at the players he has spent money on and I'm not convinced. It seems a strategy of fridge players from top clubs.

Managers have also said he didn't adequately back them and I'm also not sure on Gretar Steinsson.
Agree. It's an entirely different ballgame from being successful in Eredivisie. The negotiations, the squad building, everything. This isn't so much a league where you only have to worry about 4 clubs.

After one good window and one bad window, Brands has got a lot riding on what happens in the next couple of weeks.

He needs to get every signing right, no exceptions, first team players who massively improve the team. If he does that, then he’s probably back in credit with the majority of the fan base. If Kean and/or Gbamin come good this year, last summer’s poor window can be somewhat reassessed.

Couple of big ‘Ifs’ in there, like.

As long as he never trots out an Aiden McGeady level signing at half time of a game like he's some superstar he's already doing a better job than Martinez.

You get the feeling he doesn't have as much control as he was promised, an owner who has flavour of the month targets. He has a manager now who will work with him as he has done throughout his managerial career but with a world class manager, you have to realise expectations will be higher. Iwobi isn't going to cut it.

He needs a marquee signing to take some stress off the fan base and then squad fill.
