Kenny, Holgate, Baningime,Davies, DCL are in the first team squad and Unsworth has had a part in their recruitment and/or development.

You can add Dowell, Connolly and Robinson to that and I am giving him no credit for having had any input into Vlasic or Lookman.

We now have a few more like Horbnby, Bowler, Feeney and Gibson getting close...I could not care less if he was twice the size as long as he plays his part in the conveyor belt of talent coming through.

He is a coach at Everton, of course his weight is an issue.

will any of them actually make it as first teamers here?

He has full time access to nutritionists, the food for athletes, all the training equipment ever designed and a group of players and trainers who’d love to help, yet still he is grossly overweight. I love the man, but ffs, lose the weight....
I`ve heard that it`s not food that`s the problem, it`s ale.

To be fair there are a few coaches carrying a bit of timber at Finch Farm, John Doolan is another big lad. Must be good that canteen.
Because we’ve been run like an Old Boy’s Club for years. Look at Vlasic saying he was so surprised he could eat a full English breakfast at Finch Farm. Just complete unprofessionalism throughout the entire club.

Hopefully with a dedicated DoF, like Brands, and a manager who plays close attention to detail, like Silva, we will rid ourselves of these hangers-on.

In fairness, just because a full English is on the menu, it doesn`t mean you have to eat it.

It`s like fat birds that go to the gym in all the gear, have a latte and a Danish afterwards and then moan about not being able to lose weight.

Self discipline or lack of it.

I have to agree. Silva used the word “demand” and I was glad to hear it.

There seems to be a sub-culture at Everton that regards demand and sacrifice as contrary to the predominantly nice and community based ethos we have at the club.

The staff and players have an opportunity the rest of us can only look on at and wish we were there. We are a football club first and foremost in the business of winning football matches.

I know people can have issues with weight and weight gain but this is a professional club operating at the highest level. There are solutions for people who wish to find them, that might include medication, it almost always includes discipline and motivation. If you can’t find that working every day at a Premier League football club without the distraction of a more regular job, then it’s a poor lookout. It cannot serve as anything positive to the players be they first team or academy.

I do get this point with Unsworth and am in the fence with it. First appearances are very important, especially in sport. It's not surprising that most of the top managers now are in great shape and handsome. It warms people, fans, agents, journalists to them.

That being said, you can't really question Unsworths role as a coach and the impact he has had. He struggled in an impossible position earlier in the season. His preparation of young players is very good.

It will be interesting to see how Unsworth adapts to having to play tactics other than his own.

The fitness program is something completely different. If those clips from Dubai are any indication, and hopefully they are not, it’s a joke. Brands and Silva will have that rectified promptly.
