Yeah I agree with that. As it stands currently though Niasse is the least of our worries and one of the only players we have got right now who can actually make a difference.

I will stand by the fact that he is no a "terrible footballer" or whatever people call him, that seems to be a preconceived notion from his dodgy first few weeks with us (funnily enough Sandro who was equally as poor is just put down to not being used right...). He is a unique player who makes things happen and at the end of the day the end result is the most important thing.
If Niasse is happy being a super sub we should never sell him. He’s not the most technically gifted player, but he steps up big when needed, and is worth a lot more to Everton than we would get if we sold him. 13.5million doesnt seem a bad deal for him at all anymore, the guy is a legit finisher and really terrorizes defences with his goofy play style. Tosun is the better player and should start every game, but I bet Niasse is more of a hassle to play against.

Is Marcel or Marco the boss then ? If Marco wants a player that Brands doesn't or vice versa then what happens ? The DoF model is new to us and pretty much the PL as a whole and I am not sure how it all works and I know nothing about continental teams who have been using it for years.
They find another alternative? If they need to agree on player signed, then they dont sign the ones they dont agree on. I doubt its more complicated than that.

This doesn't seem right to me, if I was the manager and I wanted a player that I knew, trusted and had possibly spoken to before and he wanted to come then why would I need to look elsewhere because of the DoF ? Is that the way on the continent ? Honestly have no idea how this works but any help to explain is useful, cheers.

Well then they can try to convince the other party. That’s why the dialogue is important, to make sure you don’t end up with a DOF model like they used to have at Liverpool where the DOF buys a load of crap like Balotelli and Borini and just dumps it on the manager. From the press conference the other day, that’s not how it’s going to work and not how Brands has worked in the past.

Didn't you see their press conference? They said they have to both agree.

So we don't end up with crap like williams, bolasie, schnidelin, Sandro, alcaraz, kone, del, cleverly and martina to name a few.

Hopefully with a proper dof who can actually do his job signings like that won't happen.

He's barely been here 5 minutes but I think I already love him yano. Oozes class and you can just tell that he's made up to be here and looking forward to really getting going.

From the cut of his jib he seems the guy who would just tell a player they have no future here. Plain and simple. Keep Marco for building the confidence of those that are staying as he is a man-manager by all accounts and let Marcel deal with the deadwood.
Often in large corporations when they do a RIF they bring in an outside specialist to deal with the departures and help find homes for them too. Is Marcel that man?

It works like the rest of the world works, through compromise and negotiation. I'm sure if one is convinced but not the other then they'll buy the player if affordable. We won't have any Bolasie/Sigurdsson/Williams situations because Brands will rule out the signings on financial grounds once a logical value has been passed even if they want the player.

His been bought in to cut the squad and get the wages to a decent level.
Don't expect any fireworks over the next 2 seasons folks.

It's essentially going to be what spurs and Liverpool have done over the last 4 transfer windows. Sell to buy and keep the net spend close to zero.

I'm actually expecting the likes of west ham to sign better players.

Wonder how it will play out with certain players if Marcel tells them straight to do one but we can't shift them, looking at Schneiderlin and Mirallas. They going to strop around Finch Farm causing trouble?

He says too much for me. The latest "I'll give Lookman another chance" statement jarred. I want the manager of this club to be telling me that.

If anyone doesn't think this arrangement - whereby this DoF says that he's in charge of everything except picking the players for a match - has in-built conflict then they're kidding themselves. Brands talks in terms of overcoming the manager is king philosophy in England and the need to "resist" it. Maybe he thinks it's a good idea to experiment with us by shifting to another philosophy entirely. I dont. We're not a laboratory. He has way too much scope to act at this club and the first run of poor form will see fractures all over the place as everyone starts pointing at everyone else to pinpoint where the problem is.

Brand's job should just be to oversee procurement with the say-so of the manager and to oversee the academy. Full stop.

Have a day off Dave. Doesn't matter who says it - the fans want Lookman involved.

The point is that no one NEEDS to say it out loud. Just do it and stop telling everyone your thoughts on it. It has the effect of undermining a manager.
