2019/20 Marcel Brands

People expecting us to sign a conventional CF will continue to be disappointed in the near future, I think.
In common with many clubs at present are aim is to play with Forwards who can play across the front line , highly mobile and with the perceived ability to interchange. Players such as Richarlison who can be used centrally for Brazil as well as for us.
Lozano , a player who many want us to sign, is another player who is described as a Forward rather than a winger due to his ability to play across the front.
If Brands is being truthful about his intentions (and I suspect he is), I think he is correct in prioritising giving our promising young forwards game time to further their development.
For me our problem so far this season is not the lack of a goalscorer but our failure to produce enough chances. Our approach play has generally been very good but we have been too hesitant and slow around the box ,often squandering the ball with a poor pass and allowing the opposition to counterattack. If we can speed up and improve our decision making in this area it will give our capable young forwards the chance to score the goals we crave.
Sorry. I added my text straight to yours rather than as separate text!

honest question, would you rather a jelavic/tosun style striker, for an over inflated fee just to get someone in?
or
If there isn't someone availablre and affordable that would improve us, wait to the summer and put the effort into a top slotter?

He's had all season long to get a striker deal done. He enquired about the two PSV attackers, so I expect if he doesn't get one of those he's got a back up....it's what the DoFs job is singularly about....and I expect him to do it.

Sorry Dave have to say your comment is a bit of nonsense. Brands has done darn well and reading the articles he is involved shows what we need to know of his ambitions which are those for the club. You are harping on about a striker and for you that is the be all and end all, so fine. But come on Dave who can we get that is still young enough and has a record showing he is capable of 20 a season that is the bottom line.
He's identified two already. He seems to think they are there, so let him get the deal done. Dont set this feller a low bar. Why do that?!

No striker through the doors in January = that will tell me all I need to know about Brands.
We're not desparate for anything tho are we Dave? We're 1 place lower than the position we all expected us to finish up at, with a winnable run of games ahead of us

Don't get me wrong it's clear what positions need strengthening, but there's no point gambling on the few players that will be available/overpaying for players clubs don't want to sell just to finish in the exact same position

Splash big money on a striker and a right back/winger & they all tear it up = We finish 7th

Splash big money on a striker and a right back/winger & they all flop = We finish 7th

Don't spend a penny and wait til summer = We finish 7th

Would you have said the same if Burnley had beaten us mate?

I just think peoples emotions and opinions change game by game. Most wanted about 8 new players after the Spurs drumming then we beat the worst side in the league at present and suddenly we can go with what we've got until the summer.

So long as we have a small chance of 6th and also still in the FA Cup its the clubs duty to improve in the Janaury window imo as we are still underperforming at present.

Do you not think that the bar you are setting is way over world record height? If players are there as you intimate it is not simply a matter of fee - how much? can we afford? do they want to come? what wages demanded? length of contract?

Not as simple or easy as you make out Mate. By the same token are you objecting to the signings he has made since being DoF?

Or he could be acting after consulting the manager about his immediate and future requirements and planning strategy with that in mind.
Either way we will know soon enough , no doubt. As we saw at Watford if Marco doesn’t get what he wants he’ll hitch up his skirts and start flashing his legs at passing trade.

Neither of those two players mentioned are strikers, they are more like Richarlison type inside forwards, however both are highly rated and would improve what we have at the moment.

We are desperate though: we need to be getting players in now to play the way Silva wants to play with NEXT SEASON in mind.

Do you think it's a better idea to wait and get them mid-summer window and just have the rubbish pre-season games to blend them in? I dont. That would be typical amateur Everton stuff....and I thought times were changing in terms of recruitment patterns?

We saw the level of ambition in the summer. Brazil internationals, Barca players etc

The same level of player won't be available in January, what's the point in getting a Tosun type striker now when we might be able to go for a Timo Werner in the summer?

Leave him to it, he's earned our patience with his work in the summer window

I do yeah, and so does every manager/DOF/chairman/chief exec in football

Otherwise they'd sign the majority of players in January rather than the summer

A club aiming to stay up and being 20th on Jan 1st is desperate. A club aiming for CL football being 6th is desparate.

A club sat in 8th that was aiming for 7th is not desparate for signings
