Im not even sure those players exist anymore.

Clubs are very switched on to what they have these days, sure you will get the odd 1 here and there, but the days of picking up the Ganas of this world for 8m are gone I would suspect.

I know its England and he looks a talent, but James Maddison cost 25m, he would have been a 2m punt back in the day.

In fact, there aren't many of them through the entire league. Bar Suarez and Arshavin (who faded badly and very fast) there aren't many success stories when it comes to the january window.

Just my idea - maybe it's because not a single club want to lose their best players in the middle of the season? You'd rather see us sign some sub-par players just to make the numbers up?

They are certainly harder to find. I gave the example of RBL getting Konate on a free. Tyler Adams in the US is another RBL example, but that's because they have a farm team basically in NY.
 

I’d be surprised if we don’t do a little bit of business over January - 1 or 2 out with a minor signing or loan coming in but I’m not expecting anything major?

To suggest he’s not doing his job if we don’t sign a 20+ goal a season striker is a bit daft like. We’d have people complaining we’d overspent anyway so he can’t win

Striking situation has needed to be addressed, since arguably a year before Lukaku left. It's not fair to put that level of bad strategy at Brands door.

We've made some really poor decisions recently when trying to address the problems in January. I'm comfortable with us not signing a striker in Jan assuming it will be addressed competently and succinctly in the summer.

This feller Brands is getting a lot of credit from fans who seem to worship his every move...even the wrong ones, like shifting players out and getting f.a. for them.

I think it's only right that we acknowledge that there are two transfer windows in a season and any that aren't used to address OBVIOUS deficiencies have been wasted. The striker situation is the elephant in the living room but I'm reading stuff about us trundling and bumbling along for another half season without a good one because "you dont get good value for strikers in January"...as if it's an iron law of nature.

It;s excuse making. The manager shouldn't be left to juggle around his front three every game for the next 4 and a bit months. Brands needs to solve this position. Now.

Richarlison is thre only relevant one as he's a striker...and he had PL experience.

Marcel Brands says Everton will take a much-changed approach to the January transfer window this year.

The Blues spent close to £50m on Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott, as well as signing Eliaquim Mangala on loan, last winter as Sam Allardyce was given significant funds to propel the team up the table.

Brands has not completely ruled out any additions this year, and loans also remain an option, but the director of football is not planning to make signings at this stage. He added that he couldnt wait to see what Dave, 72 from Wigan had to say about the matter.

Hold on. Isn't this why Brands is idolised by some people - that he can get the value deals?

Aren't I just expecting/demanding what his apostles say he can do?

Brands: if he's said that rather than the red Echo putting "his" thoughts together for him, that is confirmation he's just another member of the capetbagger gang...just here to spin the line and nothing else. Not serious about getting this club winning games on the pitch. Another actor in the holding operation we're all sick and tired of being served up at this club.

If we dont get a striker in this January then I'll know all I need to know about that feller.
