Personally I think that he dealt with the hand he was given. I think we held on for Zaha but when Palace failed to get a replacement he had Iwobi lined up, to pull that deal off so last minute is pretty good. It has been suggested to me that we had an agreement in place with Chelsea for Tomori which would explain the lack of alternative CB plans and that was scuppered at the last minute surprise development of Luiz pushing for a move to Arsenal. At that point I think Smalling was a back up option and finally Rojo who we rightly walked away from on a permanent deal at a price of £25 million.

It is too early to judge the quality of the signings as we know too well, loads believed that Klaasen was a good deal or that Richarlison was over priced. So to rate the window based on the reputation of the players is pointless, we will know by Christmas if it was a good window or not. He signed a player in every position that we said we needed to strengthen (not 3 no.10's and no striker) apart from CB and if the explanation above can be believed he was unlucky rather than incompetent.

Don Marcel, still the King

We’re short in 1 position now, sure he’ll sort us a nice centre half at the first chance he gets

Yeah I drew a line in the sand with Holgate long ago. This could mean we have to play Gibson and we actually develop a youngster for the first time in years.

I think he has a great chance of making it but he's very young and centre half is the toughest outfield position for a kid in this league. Ideally we would be loaning him.

I hope we can get through to January and get even some short term cover. We need a lot of luck and that concerns me.

PSV replaced Strootman with Adam Maher

PSV repalaced Dries Mertens with Park Ji-sung, who had to retire next season he was so bad.

Everton he attempts to replace Zouma with Rojo, fails and leaves us with one proven cb at premiership level, and one sick note as the only two senior cb’s.

Central defence is a bit of a concern but I think Holgate and Gibson could step up. Apart from that I'm pretty content.

for £8m, are you honestly telling me you wouldn’t have signed him for that? their window is incomparable to ours

I think that analysis is spot on plus we have cleared some of the deadwood. There is still an opportunity to nibble further with the European windows being open for a few more weeks.

Or alternatively you could say that we have 2 first choice CBs who are internationals , backed by Holgate , Gbamin and Gibson
