Marcelo Bielsa

In many ways, this is the ultimate style over content debate in microcosm.

My ego, my image of Everton, demands a visionary manager, a man of renown, somebody to respect. In so many ways, despite his faults, Marcelo Bielsa is that. If this was June and we had finished 17th, I'd be very excited by Marcelo Bielsa. He would burnish my pride in Everton, make me feel good about myself.

On the other hand, my survival instinct tells me that my pride needs to take a back seat right now. We need a Red Adair or, dare I say it, a Sam Allardyce, a specialist in getting the basics right - no trimmings, no bullshit, no frills. Sean Dyche, to me, is an acceptable Allardyce. Keep us up and then we can talk.

That said, I feel we've left this two months too late and we're actually just in pure panic mode now. It took the clowns on our board two months to see that Lampard was a dud. It took defeat to a caretaker at Bournemouth, bottom-placed Wolves, bottom-placed Southampton, and a David Moyes on the brink of the sack to see that behind Frank Lampard's veneer of gold lay...nothing.

So, I have zero expectation we will win three more matches this season. And that won't really be the fault of whichever lottery winner we bring in now the horse has bolted.
All that is spot on from our own experience of Bielsa-he would make you feel good about the club again.
But agree, for now you need a survival merchant to get you through to May.

Let's bring in Bear kin Grylls then.

There’s been a lot of talk about how we don’t have the pace throughout the squad for Bielsa but that doesn’t really square with what he assembled at Leeds. This was his last game in charge. Three quick attackers but not much anywhere else at all. Was anyone in that defence or midfield much quicker than their Everton counterpart?
