Homepage Article Marco Silva ‘We go to Anfield to win’

Only for the next one, not 'eventually'.

Well, tbh, it's all the same. There is no guarantee that anything will eventually happen as each match is an independent event, same as a spin in roulette.

In fact, it's actually deeper than that. Because the gamblers fallacy is based on the mentality of the gambler alone, and the table has no influence in the outcome. But in football, each teams collective mentality comes into play. So not only does a series of losses NOT guarantee an eventual victory, a series of losses can actually lead to additional future losses.

And its not a recent thing either. Look through our entire history. We've won at Anfield 8 times since the war, that's including our 2 most successful periods/teams we've had in our history.

Until there is a huge mentality shift by 1 or both teams, you can basically chalk off those potential 6 points every year.

No message will give us any confidence. Better to keep quiet and hope for the best.
Why keep quiet?

Are we supposed to meek and "know our place"?

Bollocks to them. They're the ones who should be hiding away: ashamed of the carnage and death they've caused.

That club shouldn't be in existence. I am proud of my club; that's something deep down they cant be...that lot know they cant escape their horrific past.

This is just a 90 minute game: if we win or draw - great. If we lose then we lose a game. Win, lose or draw we can always hold our heads up and know we dont support a club up to their elbows in blood.

Got to score goals. Sadly we don't (14 in 14 games).

When they rolled over the champions league it's against sides who have clinical players.

So however well we play, we just don't have that little extra to cause any upset imo
This is our biggest problem.

We can’t score. If we could score you could at least dream of a situation where we shock da world. But we could play really well and still only score 1

The difference is between a future sequence of events and an individual event. The latter is gambler's fallacy; probability of any number for one spin is 1/37, regardless of the previously observed sequence. But if you spin the wheel a large number of times, the probability of seeing a given number at least once in that sequence is close to 1.

As for events at Anfield, they aren't independent and as long as the probability is nonzero (the more arguable bit, especially given some of the refs we've had there!) it will happen eventually! Just might not be tonight. :dodgy:

Got everything crossed for tonight, if Silva can instill a bit of passion and optimism in the dressing room we could nick this.

What optimism I have left will instantly evaporate though if Schneiderlin is involved in any way whatsoever.

Same old crap, if you go there to win then win the game. We all know we won’t though so why bother opening your mouth.
He was answering the question "Do you think you can win the game tomorrow night", what exactly would you like to him have said? Bearing in mind the words of a previous manager here are still used against him for suggesting it might be quite hard for us to win a game eight years ago.

Nineteen.webp

We play to win. If we lose, we lose, but playing to win is the least we should be doing in any game. Otherwise, why even bother?
All this "expected loss" nonsense and "bend over and take it" mentality needs to be flushed out of our proud club once and for all.

Forget statistics, because when it comes down to it, it's all about these ninety minutes and everything before or after is meaningless.

COYB!
NSNO is all we ask of you!

Move on mate. Forget the past.
