None of the reservations I have about him concern the style of football he plays or the results he has got

I'm more concerned about how he's only ever managed one club for more than a season and equally the fact he wanted to jump ship after 6 months last year when we came in for him is a concern - mostly because I think we need a bit of stability. I'm not saying we need a manager for 10 years or whatever, but 3 years would be nice.

Crucial to all of it will be what we do in the transfer market. There are some hugely expensive gaffes we've made in the last two years and it's left us weak. Brands will be every bit as important to us this season as we need him to find us some quality, pace and all at the right price, whilst shipping out a load of our guff for as much as is humanly possible.
As much as I`m quietly optimistic about him, his track record for leaving his clubs early ( for whatever the reason) suggests that no matter what happens with us, he won`t be around for the long haul.

What we need now more than anything is stability and the foundations laying for future success.

If he can bring us that before eventually moving, he`ll have done his job in my eyes.

Brands to me is potentially more important of the two and hopefully the one who sticks around.

I was thinking this! Like what happened to all our managers rapid aging disorder apart from the permanent toad form of BS. However i believe Brands has been blessed by the dutch hair gods and will protect the whole club with cosmic forces to keep hair lines in order. But ok!

We might see Rooney staying after all then.

I'm 100% in support but he is going to need a massive budget after he gets rid of the dross.

He has to be given time, unless he's completely tanking, a whole new infrastructure won't be implemented overnight so unless we are atrocious and losing, he has a bit of grace, well from me anyway, I feel the it will take a few transfer windows to sort this squad out and rid us of the ones who don't pull their weight.

Yes, massively crucial to my hopes for the fella rests with this DoF role Brands is playing.
I'm from the era when with one or two notable exceptions nobody knew the names of the chairmen of clubs. All you had was the manager and he handled everything from scouting players, signing them, what wages they'd be on and so forth. Director of Football what's that about? Now it seems that role is critical to the smooth running of affairs. So having read what Brands is all about, and what a dud Walsh was in comparison, I'm hoping Silva and Brands can forge a decent working relationship for the good of us all.

Well at least we don't have to worry about this one leaving us for Barcelona yet(until he wins three on the bounce) do we?

The rumours will come around Christmas after he's been at the helm for 6 months and we find out he eats rice crispies 25 minutes before kick off for a surge of fast acting carbohydrates and stays up late watching YouTube videos of the fans on away days.

We put a mural of him on the stadium and then he gets cold feet when Newcastle reportedly register an interest in his services

Genuine  at this, thanks!

I hope I am proved wrong, but I think this Silva episode is going to end in tears just like Fat Sam, The Cloggie, Thin Spanish Waiter, Mike Walker ect....
By my reckoning Walker was the first manager who was subject to the full on media "next big thing" and we were gullible enough to fall for it.
Horrendous time.
