I think silva will be able to battle it out for 7th / 8th in the league … there is an opportunity to get in to the top 6 or 4 even , like spurs have managed to do recently.. but with the premier league getting stronger next year and better teams coming up, I personally cant see past 7th/8th.

don't get me wrong it would take an excellent breed of manager to be able to break the top 4 … but what exactly are we trying to achieve here ??

We've seen it be as good as a B and as bad as an F on a number of occasions, so I'll go midway with a D, which I think isn't too bad for this "transitional" season. But much happier to see us finish the season strongly rather than tail off, so the trick will be getting a bit of consistency going from the off in August.

Well, we used to think anything below 6th was a poor season, then it was anything below 7th and now it appears 8th is good enough these days.

I’d say our long-term aim is to just stay in the top 10 and maybe have the odd cup run.

wolves have come in and got ahead , Watford are punching massively above their weight and teams like Leicester and west ham will also be improving.. this is where our battle will lie

but chelsea, arsenal and united even, have never looked weaker, but are still polls apart from us.

im not saying its not out of the question for silva to mix it with the big teams, he has proven this year we are just as likely to beat a couple of them than we are to get hammered by them

I just don't think think silva can put a season of good results together .. the extra long slump in form and drop of confidence, plus the cup loses were really really alarming.

the real top managers stop bad runs in there tracks, a couple, maybe 3 bad results, not 3 months of dire perfromances and a 2 week holiday before getting back on point

either way, there is NO FREE SEASON next season

its sink or swim time

We’ll be battling it out with Leicester and Wolves next season, possibly West Ham if they can get their act together.

Without a huge change of direction at boardroom level, I feel this will be our level for the foreseeable.

Totally disillusioned after our cup defeat at millwall, that was the final straw for me after 2 months of dire performances preceding it. However he eventually managed to arrest the slide and in the last half dozen games looked to have turned the corner. I think he deserves another season but somehow still don’t think he is the manager to take us to the next level.

remember Everton are renowned for suddenly playing well when every game is a dead rubber...

the performances were very encouraging and all that, but the players had ZERO pressure.

give us a game which we simply have to win and we all know what happens. no recent manager has even got close to winning such a game.

1995 was the last one, barring a couple of European ones which didn't amount to anything

I think if you balance it, it’s been a very positive season, with a disastrous spell due to a freak error.

My overall opinion of the season is one of frustration and what if, especially in recent weeks having seen Spurs, United, Arsenal and Chelsea compete with each other on who is the worst, we could have been right in there.

But we started positive concussing too many, after the derby the heads just went but we finished extremely positively. We’ve kept 6 clean sheets at home since the turn of the year, were playing exciting attacking football, and we’ve taken on the big boys at home and took 10 points.

There is areas to improve, centre forward and right back are the ones we need to look at this off season. We can’t afford another £20m+ flop like Tosun.

We’re in my opinion, clearly the 7th best team, and we will benefit from having no Europe, and well kick on next year I think.

Lots of positives, and Silva has shown he can turn it around. My challenge for Silva would be sorting the away form out, and making sure he gets the players focussed if we have a Pickford like cockup again!

The last two seasons have been very poor, and yet we have still managed to finish 8th each time. It seems a bit weird to be setting ourselves the target of doing just as crap as we have been over the last two seasons. Surely we should be aiming to improve upon the last two crap seasons?

I think we should be competing with some of the top six for a top four finish.

But the last 2 seasons have been a vast improvement on the 2x11th place finishes we had prior to that.

I don't think there was a world of difference between them tbh. Koeman had us in 7th as well.

All the money going around is actually reducing the inequality in the league, and not just amongst the bottom 14 clubs either. We need to stop acting like the top 6 are on a different planet to us. Arsenal, United and Chelsea are all shadows of their former selves, and we are more than capable of spending our money better than they spend theirs, and competing with them in the league next season.

I can't understand why we would ever be setting ourselves the target of doing just as crap as the last two seasons.

The reason being is its a comfort blanket for some fans.

If we target 8-10th every season then people feel assured.

Only those who genuinely dont fear failure set themselves targets that may seem ambitious but can be achieved with the right ingredients.

Brands and Moshiri will be doing that this summer and they'll give Silva the tools (transfer kitty) imo to easily get top 7.

Whether he seizes that opportunity will decide if he gets to see out his final year of his contract imo.

The top 6 are miles away.

But I never think its an impossible task to catch them, I always think we are 1 utterly superb transfer window from catching them. All it takes is the right ingredients.

I dont set targets till the window closes, if the window closed tomorrow I would be very concerned, I dont think we have a squad able to break the top 6 currently, but of course the next 3 months could change that.

As for Silva, hes shown he can get the results, he just needs to string more of them together and address slumps far quicker.

I see this season for what it is, a transitional season, the manager found the players he can rely on, the players bought into the tactics and we are reaping the rewards, too little far too late, but it gives me hope for next season. We now need to get the recruitment right and who knows?

I always dream, my glass is always half full, look forward, never back.
