The quality was obvious, same as Jardim who I would have liked us to go for before he went to Monaco. Then again I thought Koeman would be good for us, so what do I know.

Ok but actual specific reasons you rate him?

I know people will throw out the “it’s not my money so I don’t care line” but ten million? That’s ludicrous. The money we’ve blown recently is just not good business sense. You wouldn’t mind if we’d have improved, but we’ve gone backwards. Honesty I’m not a strong advocate of putting Unsworth in charge for the rest of the season but I just don’t want to see us panicking and spending way over the odds.

Of course some might argue it’s the price you pay to avoid relegation but the importance of the January transfer window transcends that of the new manager anyway. The fact is that when you have a director of football (we can debate his effectiveness but he is there) or clear plan from above player recruitment shouldn’t be impacted too much by managerial changes. Southampton have done this just fine the last few years. Silva or Unsworth or whoever, it shouldn’t matter. We all know what we need and we need it whoever is in charge.
