2019/20 Marco Silva

In Moshiri's own words, they took a gamble on Silva.
He doesn't have the credentials, that means he'll be under more scrutiny.
I get the feeling it was a gamble in terms of on field success.
But not beyond that. I'm sure the club got a good deal on him.
And he's doesn't seem like the type of guy whose going to cause the board and dof too many problems if things don't go his way.

If the team gets into a relegation battle I think things could change quickly
but apart from that there are other things developing which are probably more important medium to longer term
and a quick succession of managers just causes instability that's not needed.

I think this is a period of getting the right deals done behind the scenes, players, BMD, sponsorships etc etc.
Unfortunately, and bit Everton that, is the timing of these woeful transfer windows.
Not getting a CB in is a case in point. This is the first time we've been without a top class CB for quite a while.
But it was comforting to see they didn't resort to desperation, get players for the sake of it, make the same old mistakes.

And the same could obviously be said for the manager.
If it means waiting for the right manager to come rather than chopping and changing then so be it,
as long as the player roster improves each window
and we end up with that right manager.

There is no point sacking Silva without a clear replacement lined up. Otherwise we further add to the belief that we are a club that have no stability.

We will end up spending lots of money paying off Silva and then presumably big money to bring in another manager.

The aim for Silva this year should be 7th, anything below that is a poor season in my eyes. But he isn't going to progress beyond that without improving our away form. We clearly have players that can beat the likes of Bournemouth away from home, but we don't adapt to the circumstances, simply put the same formation and tactics out and hope for the best. It's the same with substitutions, everything is very reactionary. Either we conceed or we fail to press our advantage. It's noticeable he consistently waits until we have conceeded to influence the game - he failed to do it against Villa, Wolves and again at Bournemouth.

He needs to adapt to a different style away from home and consider dropping 4-2-3-1 when it's clearly not working.

To be fair, changes yesterday would always have been reactionary because there was no need to change it until they went 2-1 up. We weren't playing particularly well, but we were comfortably on top at that point and had been for some time. I'd have been quite annoyed if he had changed it at that point because I thought we were doing fine and didn't need to gamble yet. The second goal was shambolic and the third even worse, obviously we had to change things at that point.

Sometimes I think even if we had Guardiola in charge he’d still play 4231, we’d still have slow players all over midfield, we still wouldn’t win away from home, and he’d only make the same few subs after 60 minutes every game.

Martinez favoured 343, Koeman 433, Allardyce 4141, Silva went on record saying his favourite formation was 433. All of them played 4231 the majority of the time they were here. Utterly ridiculous. Is it in the contract they sign or something? The David Moyes clause, thou must not play any formation other than 4231. Fed up of seeing it.

9 years of 4-2-3-1 m8, It's an absolute shambles.

It’s not the getting beat that is the problem
It is being outfought and them having more desire and belief to get a result.
Spot on.
A decent team will have the belief that they can go to grounds like Bournemouth Burnley Southampton Villa and WIN.
Until that belief & desire is instilled in the team these type of results will be the norm.
We also need players that have that natural instinct to win and who wont accept defeat as the norm.
There is a malaise within the club .
I remember reading an article years ago when Moyes was manager when he alluded to
Silva should be sacked how long more have we to suffer
And who do you suggest replaces him tomorrow?
