Because we are claiming the manager is doing a good job based on what ifs/ultimately meaningless stats.
We all laughed when the Kopites were claiming they would be so much higher based on the amount of times they hit the woodwork.
The table ultimately doesnt lie.
It creates a winning feeling and mentality, look at them now haha
What youve said here actually emphasises the point. The season after this hitting the woodwork thing ie they were at the top of the xg table 12/13 season, they came within Gerrards comical slip of winning the title.
The table actually does lie - the expected goals table can also lie - it just lies less. The overall point being that your underlying numbers eg shots, expected goals, chances created, deep completions etc are a better future indicator of performance than your points tally.

And how many seasons since Lukaku left? We still haven't replaced him. I'd happily take a Giroud type player on a short term contract. He'd thrive off some of the chances I've seen our forwards waste. That table shows exactly what our biggest problem is
Haven’t checked how many of the squad have gone away but I see lots of foreign teams pull together squads for a friendly game during the international break. Wonder why we never do?
Probably cos no other league plays 12 games every December.
