This is his biggest failing, our shortcomings are obvious to everyone but he doesn't know how to or plainly refuses to correct them. You don't have to be a genius to realise that if you do the same thing over and over again you get the same result

Set pieces not just corners.. I think we've scored 7 away from home from set pieces which is a considerable chunk of our goals. Look how many we've conceded via crosses/setpieces, bet it will be a significant amount.Tbf the rate of scoring from corners is extremely low so it's understandable not spending so much time on them
Ah, I'd replied to your first postI'm more concerned at crosses from open play tbh.
Isn't this like 2 years old and hasn't Baines(?) said in an interview recently that we do practice them?
Last year I suggested that Martinez needed a mentor, a wiser older head to pint out his shortcomings. I now think he is a perfect assistant. He can put forward all his theories and suggestions but the boss will make the decisions.
Very very stubborn and not particularly a good manager. He is Stubborn mate, and he ain't going to change.
Quote taken from Leon Osmans autobiography
''Another difference between the managers is their approach to set-pieces. With Moyes, we could spend an hour and a half on Fridays going through routines because he was so meticulous in that aspect. If I was a manager, I'd probably do the same because fine lines can determine games. He hated losing goals at set-pieces because it was something he could influence."
"Martinez doesn't really do that. It's rare for us to work on set-pieces. You're given your roles, you're supposed to understand them and if you don't, find out, think for yourself. That was a big changeover for us."
"We questioned why we weren't working on set-pieces and Graeme Jones, the assistant manager, said: "How many do you have to defend in a game? Three? So why would we spend two hours standing around to defend three set-pieces when we could work on moving the ball."
Well the return to practicing set pieces after 2 years of not doing it shows that martinez really doesnt know what to do.
The reason of the 13/14 success is the connection of martinez's new ideas in terms of attacking football and the good defence we had under moyes.
If it is true that we have returned to practicing set pieces after 2 years of not doing it, then that shows that Martinez does know what to do.
orrrr.....maybe its just another thing that Martinez is seriously lacking in?Bloody hell, getting hard to keep up with all these new 'Another reason to slate Martinez to death' threads.
Well to be fair, if there were less reasons, there'd be less threads.Bloody hell, getting hard to keep up with all these new 'Another reason to slate Martinez to death' threads.
