Mason Greenwood

An issue like this is always contaminated by tribalism and bad faith perspective. United are a big club so many people commenting on this are motivated by their opinion of the club.

However, United’s standing in the game as an elite institution needs to come into the debate. What they do matters.

Footballing-wise you’d imagine there’s a motivation to get a talented player back in the squad. He’s also very valuable. Commercially, however, allowing him back may see sponsors walk away. Morally speaking - which should be a central consideration - it’s pretty straightforward. He’s done something very wrong.

In my mind he should be asked to leave the club. This stuff matters far more than having a good player on your books.
We're seeing how much it really matters to the game though when the likes of Henderson can present himself as an LGBT ally and head to Saudi Arabia. If United think they can get away with keeping Greenwood, they'll keep him and pay lip service to women's rights and basic standards of decency. The bean counters will determine this, not right and wrong.

I hope we never see this vile individual play again in the PL but I know that's pissing in the wind.

United have enough money and clout to take a moral stance but I suspect that they won't

Even if they do some other club will overlook his attitude and conduct. Sadly I suspect we would take him.

I very much hope not, the pink shirts would go onto the pitch first game out.

Man Utd apparently considering a U turn after the backlash.

Regardless of whether you think he should/shouldn't be reinstated it is a truly inept handling of the whole situation by United higher ups.

Charges were dropped in February so there has been ample time for an internal review and discussion with staff, team members (both men's and women's) and sponsors to assess the situation ahead of the new season and make a decision either to keep him, sell/loan him or pay off his contract.

Instead they seem to have made the decision to reintroduce him and then belatedly thought 'Oh, I wonder if anyone will have a problem with it, lets say we are waiting for members of the Women's team to get back from Australia to talk to them" which has lead to abuse of the women in Australia just as they were preparing for an important game.

Sir Humphrey Appleby : If you're going to do this damn silly thing, don't do it in this damn silly way.

The PFA will have applied pressure to have him reinstated I would imagine

We handled our case far, far better than this shower have. I’d be surprised if we went anywhere near him, in the event he leaves.

I know people say this easily these days, but I swear I’d drop this club like a stone if we did.

Yeah good luck with that.

Any Lawyer straight out of Law School could win that case.

Innocent until proven guilty has huge weight in a Court Room.
This is what would happen and the pfa/his legal team have probably made it clear that it’s going to cost Utd millions to get rid of him

No, we got lucky in that the player in our situation was winding down his contract so we could just let it expire while his case was being dealt with.

Utd have a problem not of their own making as Greenwood has 2 years left after the case was dropped.

I'd probably do the same. If Greenwood came here, I would be disappointed with Everton and think it had betrayed something fundamental in its approach to uphold certain standards of decency and supporting those who support it. I would go forget about football.

United are in an awful position. However they manage it there will be criticism. Just like us and Siggurdson. In retrospect, the complete silence over him was probably as good an approach as any. A real hornets nest and United just look to be hitting it with a stick.

When you’re gonna get stick either way, surely just doing the right thing becomes the obvious approach.

United have made a huge rod for their own back now, even if they end up making the right choice, because of their utter lack of decisiveness.

I think they had a decent case of a “termination for repeatedly breaking conduct rules“ given his prior issues (late for training, covid parties etc) - probably not enough to be certain of winning in a court case for wrongful dismissal but pehaps enough to get Greenwood to accept some transfer/payoff deal.

However they have blown any chance of that by clearly not caring one whit for those previous instances and planning on bringing him back despite everything and only reversing the decision due to backlash.

Released by mutual consent - will have cost Utd millions

Will be interested to see where he lands next as he is clearly a premier league standard player early in his career
