I like the flat back 4 with all centrebacks. Holgate and Godfrey are always in position, they’re tall, they’re quick, they don’t take chances.

It’s a great mix of big units, good defenders who are comfortable playing deep and Holgate and Ben, can play out and transitition. All the time two very decent midfielders shielding.

While we have one of the best holding forwards in general play and a high energy, dangerous pest in Richarlson, who can penetrate.

We have stumbled upon an effective system through necessity, says a lot about our manager.

In the Moyes days lining up in the tunnel with Osman Hibbert Baines Pienaar Arteta it looked like men v boys sometimes against the big physical sides.

Now the shoe was on the other foot. Walking out the tunnel we were towering over Leicester. Mina Keane Holgate Godfrey Doucoure Richarlison DCL Olsen. All huge physical units.

We’ve badly needed it for a long time Pal, we have big physical fighting players now, we are really hard to break down. I was sick of the team being being bullied the last couple of years in particular.

It’s suited us over the last few fixtures and confidence is building, though I do think we need to be flexible. I don’t see us playing this system against the like of Sheff Utd, who will just give us the ball and invite us on, we will need more of grinding down teams offensively, rather then on the counter.

I remember it was similar in the Royle days. Jackson and Ablett at Full back. Parkinson in midfield with Duncan and or Rideout up top.

Stick a guy in with good delivery and bingo.

Did anyone else get on the Match of the Day commentator say that was his first goal for Everton? Also called him a ‘newbie’ in relation to DCL...despite the fact he’s been here longer?
