If he and Godfrey struck up a good partnership we could be solid for years.
Just needs to cut out his own Keane-esque brain farts and who knows. He has the physical attributes.

Ive seen him play well in a 2 in the past numerous times. Most of his errors last season came in a three or when Keane was ballooning balls agaisnt him for no reason. Put him next to Godfrey like you say and he’d be great on my view.

What's the gum situation been so far this season with him? I've not noticed, but it was certainly a red rag to some angry Evertonians last season.

I think the gum situation made what was a poor season look even worse as it gave off the wrong vibes. I like the guy but it even irked me a bit. If he cuts it out and focuses on doing what he did 2 years ago there is nothing to say he can't be one of our 4 CBs going forward. I only hope he doesn't play RB as I think switching between the 2 isn't helpful for his positional sense. He got caught on the ball a couple of times at CB and I think this was because there is less time and less forgiveness when you are in the middle whereas he got away with it when playing RB.

I agree, it wasn’t a great look. I can imagine Benitez not having it - I’m genuinely curious if he’s still doing it.

Imagine caring about someone not closing their mouth when chewing gum.

No ones commented as far as I know and some people on here couldn't wait to bring it up so perhaps it's stopped. Maybe Richarlison told him what a bad look it was and that's why they had dust up after the City game? If he has stopped its a good thing.

It wasn't particularly me but you must have seen some of the posts on here. I just thought it made him look a little casual whereas some were actually blaming it for his mistakes.
