Holgate probably hasn't started for us yet because he's not ready and Martinez doesn't want to risk putting a youngster in to a high pressure game just yet. I'd much rather we waited an extra month and he surprise us than get chucked in too early and fail, causing his confidence to plummet. Martinez has managed youngsters extremely well in his time here. I trust him to make the right call.

....I'm not sure age is a major factor if we are talking about back up to Coleman. I suspect RM really like Byram. A four year contract will have seen others fall down the pecking order.

Now that Jags is back, hopefully our defence will settle down , there may be more opportunity to put Holgate on the bench in future. One problem is the lack of cover ahead of him when Gerri plays, his inexperience would be brutally exposed at PL level without a sound defensive structure around him.. But apparently he's out injured at the moment , certainly he wasn't in the squad for the mid-week u21 game.
Re the Guardian article, they do this on a regular basis, top young talents, two years ago they had Lukaku, Chelsea and Delofeu, Barcelona in their top 10 so let's hope in two years time they're proved right about Holgate.

He hasn't really been mentioned regards to Saturday, and we're short of defenders at the moment
