I take it Murphy pointed out how it was a great idea for Sterling to move so he could learn off the likes of Silva, Toure and Aguero?

He told BBC Sport: "He's developed quickly and he's a player you'd want to build your team around but I think he has to remember it was Liverpool who has given him the opportunity and a platform to get to the level he's at, and he has to show the club a bit of respect"

Its madness the way these ex players are elevated to pass remarks and comments without reproach. I sometimes wonder what criteria, (in some cases if indeed any) are applied by sports producers as to who gets to sit smugly passing off the cuff remarks left right and centre without recourse or sanction. These people are exalted to oracle levels by the BBC and have been for many years...remember Mark Bright (almost a Private Eye character by inappropriate surname) stating the bleedin obvious on the gravy train and Shearer, hobby fence creosoting, manically grinning through his first 50 or so MOTDs repeating "he'll be disappointed with that". Nice-guy journeymen like Kilbane and Jenas add nothing to what we dont already know but their inoffensiveness fills a void for tv people.(The likes of Murphy is purely a wannabe Hansen who tries to be laconic and an all knowing smug git, arrogantly airbrushing that he was well turfed by the RS - I find him even worse when co commentating with the cosy smart arse asides). The Stones remarks are a ba*tard disgrace, but these people are beyond in house reproach it seems given they can flash their drawers at Sky/BTSports/C5 and jump ship if they get the hump or are pushed. I think the Lynam and Coleman style footie anchormen of the past wouldn't have let them get away with the things they say...it appears the 'tapping up' of old is now neither covert nor subtle but simply the norm in many guises.
