Materazzi reveals what he said to provoke Zindane

MILAN, Italy (AP) -- Italy defender Marco Materazzi finally disclosed what he said to Zinedine Zidane in the World Cup final that provoked the French star to retaliate with a head-butt.
"I prefer the whore that is your sister," Materazzi wrote in his yet-to-be-released autobiography, according to Italian news reports Saturday.

Italian magazine TV Sorrisi E Canzoni reported the insult in an interview with Materazzi, which comes out Monday. Materazzi, however, told ANSA news agency the words were not part of the interview.

"Rather they are from page 21 of my autobiography," Materazzi said Saturday. "I will speak about the book at length but only on Aug. 30, the day set aside for its presentation in Milan."

Zidane head-butted Materazzi in the chest with 10 minutes left in last year's final. He was sent off for violent conduct, ending his stellar career with a red card. Italy went on to win the game in a penalty-kick shootout after the score was 1-1 after extra time.

Materazzi, who received a two-game ban for incitement, has since apologized to Zidane. France coach Raymond Domenech this month lauded Materazzi's strategy for getting Zidane out of the game.
"I say 'bravo' to him," the coach said.

They are incapable of doing wrong unless someone provkes them into it, just goes to show what a complete joke FIFA are.

Zidane should feel utterley ashamed of himself, he made not only himself but also his team mates and the whole of france look like violent hooligans, he in one stupid act lost the world cup and gifted it to Italy.

I always thought he was the poor man's beckham anyway.

Wow, a poor man's Beckham eh? I think Beckham was nothing compared to the brilliance of Zidane. Beckham is like one of those pretenders left behind on the mountain stages as Armstrong (Zindane) shows his worth and leaves everybody in his wake.

You can only compare them in the same team Dylan, the only fair and just comparison and zidane (in comparison) was nothing compared with beckham.

Anyway, its all a matter of opinion, I also think henry is better than ronaldinho and arteta is better than garcia but the majority don't...

Without trying to be biased here Arteta has to be the most talented spanish footballer on the planet if I was the Spain coach I would pick a team built around Arteta....I'm sure he'll get what he derserves one day I just hope its whilst he's playing in the royal blue jersey.

Also, what Materazzi said to Zidane is disgraceful. but put in the same position with a chance of winning the world cup for my country I guarentee I would do exactly the same thing.
