Zidane drove Real to dominance in the Champions League. As soon as Beckham arrived they won nothing. It's hard to compare their performance when both at Real at the same time as Zidane was past his best when that happened and yet still managed to drag France to a WC final. All Beckham has ever done in World Cups is get sent off, fanny out of tackles, miss penalties and get injured.

Beckham is a decent player who's fame exceeded his ability. Zidane was the premier player of his generation and probably the best since Maradonna.

You're are a fan sir and can't see the bias in your own words.

The French team Zidane "dragged" to the world cup actually happens to be a bloody good football team.

A bloody good team that was struggling to qualify until he and Thuram came out of retirement :) To be honest I'm not a huge Zidane fan as he played for two sides I didn't care much for, but the fact remains that he has been the leading player of his generation. Beckham isn't even the leading English player of his generation (Scholes), who incidently if we're going to use pure statistics as a measure is probably ahead of them both. Heck, your favourite player Mr Lampard has pretty good stats too, all those goals and championships, maybe he should be the best in the world ;)

I see Beckham and I see a celebrity, whereas when I see a Giggs, a Scholes, a Keane et al I see a footballer. I'm sure he's a nice enough chap but in any other less celebrity obsessed age he wouldn't receive half the fanfare he does as he typified the very worst of the Galactico spirit that tore down that great (Zidane led) Real side that won three Champions League titles.

ah well, I disagree but there ya go.

Beckham for me is no fuss just class and those only looking for flicks, step overs and flair will not think he is any good, for all your lampards and gerrards and rooneys, England were [Poor language removed] without him.

Agree that sometimes his quality is overlooked, he was a world class footballer in his pomp but Zidane can lay claim to being best in the world for a while.

And before he gave Materazzi a Kirkby kiss he was the outstanding player in the last World Cup. Even though he's in the twilight of his career.

I used some ace words there.

Agree, but then players playing in the PL never ever get the title of best footballer look at henry, 10 times the player ronaldinho is but never got the title.

Tough one to call mate, Henry v Ronaldinho. Not so clear cut as Ronaldinho is a cut above.

but alot of what people see on tv, his tricks and what not, they never come to anything.

Henry is a genius and ronaldinho is great player.
