Belgian outfit Excelsior Mouscron claim Everton have invited Maxime Lestienne for a two-day trial at Goodison Park.
The 17-year-old has caught the eye this season with a series of exciting displays across Mouscron's midfield.
Manchester City, along with the likes of PSV Eindhoven and Anderlecht, have previously been mooted as suitors but it is Everton who have made the first move.
It has been rumoured Mouscron will consider his sale due to financial difficulties at the club, but caretaker manager Hans Galje has warned Toffees counterpart David Moyes to get back in the queue for his sought-after player.
Galje told Belgian channel Sporza: "I know Lestienne has been asked to come and visit Everton for a couple of days, but they can take a place in the waiting room.
"There is an incredible amount of clubs interested in this guy. I understand Maxime won't leave Mouscron soon."
Dutchman Galje claims Everton have asked permission for Lestienne to come over to England to take a look at the club's facilities.
"The invitation of Everton is to show him the stadium and that's not that strange.
"But first Maxime wants to take a look and then Mouscron will have to be asked permission for that to happen."
