Dwight K Schrute
Player Valuation: £25m
I know footy is a game of opinions and all that, but I can't agree with this at all.I'm going to try my best not to exaggerate here: he is at best the 6th best English RB playing right now. I don't think you can make any argument for him being ahead of Trent, James, Trippier, Wan-Bissaka or Walker.
Now if I'm picking he's even lower than that. Lamptey and James Justin are ahead of him for sure as well in my eyes. And you've also got guys like Ayling and Matty Cash who have taken to the PL pretty well in a way he didn't really do last go around.
He's young, presumably he will get better, but the money matters here and we're thinking about tossing away an awful lot of it for this guy.
Alexander-Arnold I'd excellent going forward but a poor defender, Wan-Bissaka is an excellent one-on-one defender but poor going forward. Walker has always made a fair few mistakes, and Trippier has gone to a club competing for the title and is in his peak, so you would expect him to be decent. Matty Cash is a good solid RB and decent all round, but no more than that. Ayling is criminally underrated, but 30 I think.
So that leaves James, who I do think is excellent with loads of potential, Justin who looks really good (we should have been all over that when he left Luton for buttons) but has done his ACL so we will have to see how that affects his game when he returns and Lamptey, who I do think looks awesome but is too small to play in a back 4, so you would have to commit to switching to a permanent wing back system and lose tactical flexibility. Plus he has really struggled with injuries.
Aarons is a good defender with the potential to get better and is explosively fast and would offer an excellent overlap. He likes to carry the ball (something this squad lacksnin general) and doesn't mind taking on a man - for that alone he would instantly improve our team. He's very young but very experienced and has an incredibly high ceiling. He would be an absolutely superb signing in my opinion.
