I like manny I'm not sure I buy the reasons that he was malnourished when when he started and grew into his frame meaning he's one of the only fighters to carry his punch up the divisions but that aside he's been a top class champion and I've enjoyed many of his fights . As you say there is absolutely no shame in not being as good as floyd , hagler lost to Leonard in his defining fight but I still massively respect him and his career .

I read something from David haye that i remember people saying to me when I was young and kidding myself I could box. "The object of boxing is to hit the other fella and avoid getting hit" , that's what Mayweather does and somehow it's a bad thing .

i do think Manny has always had the naz type power, and he could hit like a WW even when he was 15lbs lighter, added to the speed he has and there's one entertaining fighter

the current mindset of the boxing public, towards the casual end especially, has been heavily influenced by the tv providers (hbo, showtime) as they want every fight to be a gatti/ward slugfest, they know the general fan wants to see an all action slugfest so they fill their undercards with lesser fighters who can bang but might have a suspect chin, guaranteed entertainment.
but its in direct contrast to the mantra we were all taught when starting up all those years ago. There's a reason the gyms have floor to ceiling balls

Are you not allowed to dislike Mayweather and his style of boxing?

I know enough about boxing to understand he's technically unbelievable, but in my opinion his style doesn't make great fights to watch and he's a thoroughly dislikeable person.

Is there something wrong with that?

Not at all mate , but you yourself recognise that he's technically brilliant . For me to say that and say you don't like it is absolutely reasonable it's more the slagging without recognising his ability that I personally frustrating , not that my opinion matters like .
adonis the pimp Stevenson

Exactly we could go on and on , there are sadly an awful lot of fighters with 'issues' around them and reasons to dislike them as individuals .

One of the reasons I prefer our sport to MMA, when you go the fights in boxing, the majority of people you talk to have a grounding in the sport or at least appreciate the little nuances of it, the bigger fights have a bigger casual element and I don't mind that too much, it's nice to see the sport transcending, although frustrating when you have to read a football reporter try and tell you about a fight. With MMA I find the vast majority of fans are pretty much all casuals who just want to see people get hurt, maybe because of the nature of the sport and how it is marketed, which is a shame because it's a very complex discipline, but there seems to be far less of the talk, of the old gyms you used to go to, and mutual acquaintances, replaced with bulbs in tap out shirts

Why do people keep saying this? He pushed his body to the limit during an extensive training camp. Cryo chambers at 4am etc. Its still an outrageous payday but it was for more than just the fight
We all know that lid. Just an unbelievable payday. He's done well. And a well-deserved winner; he dominated.

i know, especially the reporter bit, did you read Colin Murrays preview to the 'fight of the century....7 years to late', it was dreadful, all he spoke of was the domestic violence, the money, the general twotishness of mayweather. He actually said about the ortiz fight, mayweather cheated by hitting ortiz when ortiz wanted to apologise with a hug! Conveniently forgetting the headbutt and the fact time was called. The rest of it followed suit. Abysmal journalism.

i cant stand MMA crowds, the best part of the sport is the ground game and they boo it because they cant see blood and teeth flying round.
the best fight I've seen in UFC, limited pool to pick from tho, is Silva v Sonnen 1. And that was fought and won on the ground.

that sonnen is hilarious aswell

Everybody prefers a different style that is why judges cards can be so different. Its an each to there own sport.
Another thing what annoys me is the judges and Ref's all being homers most of the time, it's like letting a Liverpool fan Ref the derby.

The states think they are the only ones capable of officiating a boxing match, it's wrong, and wide open to abuse, no judges, of Ref should be the same nationality as any of the boxers involved.

I've managed to avoid most of it fortunately, the likes of murray and martin samuels being paid to write about something they clearly are not versed in, one of the worst things that the inception of the premier league brought with it was the downturn in quality sports journalism, everything became about the prem league, so whenever these fellas have to write about boxing, cricket or if the olympics are on, you can tell they haven't got the first clue

Very true. Should be four different nationalities imo, none of whom having any connection to either boxer.

Funny because I heard a British boxing journalist yesterday saying they'd spoken to a Mayweather insider who'd said that they would be happy to not have Khan next as they believe his attributes could cause problems.
guess that insider and Mayweather's dad aren't on the same page haha think this is just what his dad thinks not any indication of Mayweather's plans
edit: hopefully that journo doesnt work for the mirror or sun!

Malignaggi called the pac/may fight spot on, doesn't go as far as saying khan would win, but thinks he's a serious threat, I'd back hunter as a better tactician than roach, but i very much doubt khan has the intelligence to beat floyd over 12, but paulie makes an interesting argument, and he is worth listening to as a pundit
