WTF is Steven Warnock doing on MOTD? Where do they find these no hope RS players from? They must have gone through every RS player over the last 20 years and are now just scraping the barrel. At least they tempered a red with a blue this week.

Have I missed anyone?

Whilst some of them no doubt have something of interest to bring to the table (Hansen back in the day focusing on the defensive side of the game, Carragher’s delivery although he’s not everyone’s cup of tea...), it’s a pretty impressive list of gobshites.

Agree mate I am not getting carried away, I still see us as in a fight for EL places myself, but some teams get praised constantly for less than we have done so far.. Leicester were called title contenders yesterday how many points do they have? Who beat them recently?Of course there are still tough games to come that run is tough and we are lacking key players so it will be tough to maintain with our thin squad, but the complete disregard is ridiculous at times. But yes if it works to our advantage good.
Leicester have won the league recently. Whether we like it or not, that means they have modern history of following through and becoming winners. So it's plausible that they could win again, in the minds of pundits. We, by comparison, have a modern history of abject failure and a puffed-up pride that's weirdly needy, as if only the approval and admiration of others can validate our sense of self. Let's just win some trophies.

I remember how ridiculous the idea of Manchester United qualifying for the European Cup seemed in 1992. Twelve months later, it was a reality and soon the idea of the European Cup without them seemed even more ludicrous. We've got to change the narrative ourselves. A pat on the head from Carra cannot do that work for us.

Who in the media speaks well about us that has never played for us, anyone?
To be frank, I'm more concerned by those in the media who speak poorly about us that have played for us. I'm talking about people like Alan Stubbs and Leon Osman, fellows who were deeply ordinary players playing for deeply ordinary Everton sides in a period of historical underachievement and stagnation. The type of fellas who would never have played in an ambitious or successful period in the club's history but who could tenuously bask in the reflected association with Dean, Ball, and Southall.

The only Everton people I want talking about us in the media are fellas who won big with us - and there are not many of those left now. Funnily enough, Andy Gray has improved immeasurably on us since we got Carlo in and showed a bit of seriousness. He now talks about us in terms of higher standards and expectations. Under Moyes, through no real fault of the manager, we were reinvented as a sort of storied Coventry City, plucky underdogs with a bit of history. Since then, the narrative - even from our own - has been that we had to sell the likes of Rooney and 7th would be a great season.

So, until we can get our own house in order, I wouldn't be too bothered by other clubs' moutpieces.

Fwiw I think Everton have decent representation on telly these days, Cahill, Osman, Kilbane, even Lineker and Lescott to an extent.

The problem is more the overwhelming bias towards Liverpool and the unnecessary overexposure, I feel more for literally any club outside the “top 6” and us, Leicester and maybe Newcastle.

How hard is it to just find an ex player for every team? Most of them will have been media trained to some degree and it’s literally the easiest payday in football so not many would turn it down.

I agree to an extent we do have inflated pride as a fan base over sized compared to our recent achievements. I don't need validation I just expect some nod to our existence. Leicester did win the league but they also fell away last season they probably have a better squad and more of a record the last few years fair enough, I still see them as Top four challengers rather than title. But to not even mention our good run is weird? When we were above them at that moment. I don't expect them to say we are title chasing just acknowledge us but whatever as you say there is a reason they don't, we have badly underachieved and failed for decades we need to be consistent for years, only then will we get any be grudging respect because the media have their favourites.

We're treated like some elderly parent who's spoilt children have packed off to the nursing home and forgotten about.

Depressed myself a bit there with that analogy.
