Megson gone

Got to feel sorry for Megson, you see the pictures of fans with signs saying "Megson out". They have had them for years, and the guy has not done a bad job in fairness. But in all honesty if I was Megson I would have resigned, why work for fans who boo you? Even when you end up winning eh?

Good move for his career, get some rest and start refreshed.

Put yourself in a Bolton's fans shoes. You waited for generations for something like a chance for a long European cup run (and Bolton could have made some noise that year -- they were every bit as good as Rangers and playing that 2007 team in midweek is no easy feat) and your "little" side has made it to the final 16 with a winnable tie against Sporting Lisbon.

Megson comes in, and his 1st order of business is to THROW THE UEFA cup which if you've ever been on a Bolton message board this was the ultimate betrayal to the die hard Bolton fans, and they will never forgive (and rightly so) Megson for that. 2nd is to return to dire football (which the fans initally tolerated in 07 because there was no transfer window to get more players) and refining it to the point that it was the most sickening dire pathetic display of football that the prem has ever saw.

Say what you want about Big Sam, sure his teams were overly physical but at least let his good players like Campo, Jay-Jay, Ankela have some freedom to produce on the pitch. In a way they were enjoyable because they never backed down to the "big 4" often punishing them mercilessly on 50-50 balls, crosses in the box, etc. Megson on the other hand would rather McCarthyize a tie with Arse or Utd to rest up for a Wigan or Stoke City. Big Sam's teams were a tough manly lot, Megson's sides are weak and cowardly.

Also Megson overspent his Ankela money on an average at best striker from the French league (11 goals. He paid Yak money for a striker who was at best 1/2 as good as the Yak in an inferior league). I remember McMahon's take on Elmander. "He scored 11 goals in the French league and none of them stood out where I'd say this man is worth 10M+. He'll be lucky to score 1/2 that in the prem. Now with 2 years of tinkering 2 years later you are still putting 10-11 men back (at home!) against the likes of Hull City, West Ham and any other relegation fodder.

Fans are now to the point that if we have to watch this crud every week what's the point of staying up? What fun is finishing 14-17th every year when you are throwing cup competetions, throwing matches against world class teams etc. At least at say West Brom you get to see some good football every now and then, and they at least give it a go.

hit the nail on the head there lid

There are some ex-Everton players who I really like, but who really are not PL level managers. Megson and Reid are two examples, Rats as well.
