Messi

With the ESL shambles, that is still lurking not so in the shadows, city throwing wedge and wages about, Barca in absolute financial turmoil and now psg spending Mind boggling fees on wages for all their new "free" transfers (so free that they have to sell up to 10 players, if the press are to be believed!) the game I loved has well and truly gone for good.

It has been for a while tbh, look at the bloody wages we are paying for the dross we have and 10th place?!

Can't blame Messi for any of this - Barca are idiots for allowing themselves to implode and psg are throwing cash at him - why wouldn't you take it?

A wage cap should have been implemented years ago, but uefa and FIFA are as bad as the agents, players and clubs and in the trough, head first with the rest of the pigs.

Football continues to eat itself, sadly the telly clappers will continue to feed the beast, long after the match going fans are no more.

Sick of them milking the story now. The only surprise was that he left Barca, going to PSG was always on the cards if that happened. He will find it a right challenge against teams like L'Oriel, Breast and Claremonts Foot.

I read that it's in Spanish law that a subsequent contract cannot be less than half of what the previous contract was. So even if he took exactly 50% pay cut, it still wouldn't have been enough to save Barca.

This thread started by Colin Millar I believe(?) has been called into question in the conversation directly under that tweet TBF

He is pure greedy, he could have played in a more competitive league amd still got paid 260k a week but nah he wants 600k a week. Wow he bankrupted Barca and still not learnt

100% spot on.

Obviously doesn't understand simple finances like this: '...With Messi's wages last season, the wage bill was 110% of income, without them 95%...' But he understands still shovelling as much as he can into his pockets...

Come on now, this is a bad take

a) This isn't him, it's his dad negotiating salary; dont think Messi gives a slightest toss how much he earns at this point in his career; but dad definitely wants son to be earning the wage reflecting his status in world football.
Messi himself stated several times he is ambitious and wants to win the CL again after 6 year drought.
Not many places offer the chance and he's 34, so can't go joining Leeds or anywhere like that and hope.

b) He didn't 'bankrupt Barca'. Bartomeu's historically terrible project management did.
President's only desire was to create a club generating £1bn turnover and squeezing whatever he can in terms of trophies during Messi era to make his tenure as president look very successful in Barca books.
He and his staff had no clue who to target to actually make team play well as evidenced by transfer history and contracts he allowed seniors take on.
That led to Messi having to do way more than should and logically salary demand has risen, as it would have in any normal job in any circumstance.

surely hes earned the right to choose where he goes for his last contract?

whats he won like 6 ballon dors, 4 champs league what ever else

hes done a fair bit in the game hasnt he
Exactly, he’s 34 aswel not exactly in his prime. Been playing at the top level for 17 years nearly and people calling him a bottler for going to play in France at 34.

Why can't he play for free?
Surely he could have not taken a sign on fee.
Gave Barca a cut of his image rights....
Signed a £1 a week contract etc if he really wanted to stay....
He's earned more than enough money
Get a grip. Best player in world playing for free. Every fan reckons they would play for free, and you would for a season. After that and you relies the pressure from the fan and that your teammates and rivals are getting more - all of a sudden you aren’t a fan - and you are a footballer and want to be paid as much as you are worth. Anyone that says otherwise is living in the clouds.

He couldn't play for free if he wanted, It's either Spanish labour law or La Liga that you cannot take a wage deduction from your last contract at less than 50%.

Apparently La Liga on Sunday offered a way for Messi to play at the 50% contract and giving them amnesty over the new salary cap rules if Barca backed the CVC partners deal they just did with La Liga, Barca like Real Madrid hate the deal, it handcuffs them to La Liga even more writing off the ESL hopes, it's why Real have taken Tebas and La Liga to court.

Messi's decades of tax evasion tip the scales
He had one case of tax evasion worth about €4 million and paid it back and fines on top.

You are equating that with two states with the most grotesque human rights abuses and still today continuing a policy of modern day slavery.

You're an example of how sportswashing works, defending them, even more strange is you have no ties to either country or allegiances to either club.

Sportswashing to a tee.

I'm not defending anyone
