Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning all, we had a brilliant afternoon and evening yesterday meeting members of the 1878 group and the wonderful Sarah who also has the website Mint is Culture. Although I’d heard of this before I didn’t realise exactly what they do. Their aim is to create a good atmosphere at Goodison to encourage the team which sounds a bit vague but after we took all the photos yesterday we spent a couple of hours helping them to roll up and place flags all over lower Gwladys and put cards on almost every seat in the Park End for today. We left at 7 and they were expecting to be there until about 10 and going back in first thing to finish off. All this on a voluntary basis and what a great set of people- total respect to them all.
I felt really emotional seeing my husband and son holding up the banner but since the daughter in law has been pregnant I can blubber at anything 😂.
So it’s back again for the early kick off and for those brave enough to watch it, spare a thought for those few people who’ve done their best to create the atmosphere needed to win when you see the flags and the park end display. Just need the team to get their finger out now.
They loved the Women of Grand Old Team T shirt by the way @Gwladysover and @anjelikaferrett and took lots of pics of it 😂.
Enjoy your meet up @jazzy and @anjelikaferrett and have a great Sunday all 💙.

Val, it looked fabulous, well done. We needed that win and amazingly when you shoot at goal it sometimes goes in, who would ever have thought that. Of course DCL can be two yards out and still can’t hit the sodding goal, but at least we won…..

Hi folks. I have had a lovely day - the highlight being meeting @jazzy ( who makes an excellent cuppa) Rosie, Tintin, the goats, a sheep and some chickens. I also waved to Mrs J Senior through her window. The result was an added bonus. Much needed. Thanks for your hospitality @jazzy.
In other news I saw my sister in law from Australia this morning, my little great niece so it has been a proper family weekend. Most enjoyable.

Sounds like you’ve had a great weekend Anj, I’m glad…….

That’s crazy scheduling. Does Buckie have a large squad or just a really fit one?
They went through a patch of about 3 months when pitch was continually waterlogged , not draining and didn’t play a match at home. They borrowed another pitch twice but still ended up with a huge backlog. Scottish FA insist all matches be finished by 20th so that playoff against Lowland League winners takes place , 2 matches, then winners play bottom of Scottish League 2 as a promotion play off.
They do have a decent squad larger than most as they generate money via good gates, functions etc.

Football outside of the top couple of divisions really is a world apart. Probably more enjoyable though.

Well I’ve had a pretty good weekend. Yesterday Buckie Thistle did it and are Highland League Champions! It was as tense as an Everton last day relegation battle, 1-0 up in the first half , Brechin also 1-0 up at half time , then 1-1 Brechin , so a 1-0 victory would mean Buckie’s title and they held on to do it . Brechin made it 2-1 in the end but by then the pitch invasion was in full swing!

And today I completed the Moray Marathon in 4 hrs 15 mins , my fastest time for over 20 years and having upped my target to “ under 4hrs 20 “ it paid off . Twas hard work but a brilliant day and I’m much chuffed . I was also 1st M70 so have a wee trophy. And watching Everton on recording was the icing on my cake 🙂

Same happened with my local team Charnock Richard, remaining fixtures are 22nd, 23rd, 25th and 27th - all caused by postponement due to waterlogged pitches.

I know we talked about a mate I played with here, Robbie Nichol who played and I think coached Buckie, I was wondering if he’s still involved with them, I realize he could of moved away

I was just wondering
