Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Wind chill was -3° at just after 6am. Good for walking in but not so much the ice for going on your arse.
Gorgeous down here today. Sunny, little wind and a cool 6C but feels warmer with the sun on your back.

Just in Falmouth for a haircut pre Cape Town. Buggers have increased the bus fare from £4 to £6. Can somebody please remind Starmer he's leader of the Labour Party.

Having a bit of brunch before shopping for some holiday gear. It's less stressful than ironing.

I'll catch you all later before I leave. 6.30 am start tomorrow so I'll have to be up by 5am. Shudders.

I thought all bus fares were capped at £3

Have a truly fantastic, memorable holiday mate , photos are mandatory

Yes 2 January is always a Bank Holiday in bonny Scotland, @blueloon will confirm otherwise but I think that hogmany is more important up there than Christmas.

So , back to the gym , healthy eating and no booze for the rest of the month.

January is a make or break month for Everton I think. A new manager and a couple of players or we are in big , big relegation trouble me thinks.

Anyway, have a lovely day everyone.
Yeah 1st and 2nd are a Bank holiday in Scotland. Hogmanay has always been an important occasion but it seems to have died a lot over the past few years , as confirmed by others not just me being an old foggy ! At one time it was very much the case that people would go out visiting neighbours on Hogmanay, taking a bottle with them , sharing as they went and first footing . The 1st is usually a day of family gatherings and another big lunch. Our 1st was taken up initially by my “ Sair Heidie” run which raised £450 for a local charity , First Responders, who are looking to buy new de fibs and other equipment. Then lunch for 4 afterwards.

We had the Northern Lights out last night but couldn’t be bothered going looking for better views, most of the pictures you see of course have been captured on cameras , the naked eye is often less effective. It’s been a chilly day here , I was out running in a wee bit of snow with hail showers and strong winds this morning , quite a wind chill, but nowhere near being in blue1948 territory !

Quite the hike in fare that.

You leave holiday shopping until the day before you go? Prime example of Man.

Socialising itself has changed a lot since Covid but even before I noticed lower numbers of revellers. Everything has gotten too expensive for people to party as much as they used to.

I think that can be arranged. ;)

Just packing my stuff now. Unfortunately I wasn't able to add to my wardrobe as Weird Fish (where I buy most of my T shirts) has closed down. In fact there seems to be a lot of boarded up shops on the main street that I hadn't noticed previously. :( Rob said that clothes are very cheap in S Africa and the aparthotel we're staying in for the first 3 days is above a big shopping mall. Sorted. I've actually managed to find 6 shirts that look OK so it isn't a problem given I'll be spending 90% of the time in shorts and T shirts.

Oh I feel so excited for you! What a great adventure!

Happy New Year all. @Barnfred 55 have an amazing time. I'm just signing off work until next Thursday- apart from overtime on Saturday. (I started writing this ages ago then forgot to post it) Tomorrow is gym, hair and nails.
It's freezing here- we've had frost all day.The skies are beautifully clear though. Very starry night.
I think I've got all the certificates I need to get on the Register Of Foreign births. I just need to get my photo taken and ID verified. Then once I've done that I can apply for an Irish passport.
It was quite sad looking at my Granny's death certificate. She got run over on Ullet Road. She got off a bus, went to cross the road and got hit by a car. It was completely her fault - she just walked out in front of the car. I was 14 at the time. She was 69. Reading the injuries listed as the cause of death was very sad.
We're off to Belfast on Sunday which I am very excited about. I've even hired a car , which for some reason is making me feel like a mature, sensible adult. 🤣
Have a lovely night - loads of pics please Fred and don't forget to set your alarm!

Not quite the -11° of Finland but bitterly cold here and too slippy for my normal early morning walk. I never seem to settle until I can get out and stretch the old limbs.

The darts was great last night and the semi-finals should be good this evening as well. The added bonus of the Old Firm at 2pm makes it quite a strange Thursday really- I take it today is a public holiday in Scotland?
Do you have anything like these :- https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=ice+bugs+winter+boots ? There are lots cheaper but they are the ones we have -cheap life insurance !
